Super Sentai Ends In 2026

Source: https://comicbookmovie.com/sci_fi/power-rangers/toei-officially-confirms-50-year-super-sentai-saga-concludes-in-2026-a225228

The end of Super Sentai after fifty long years is nigh… and I’m not quite sure what to think. I figured that it would survive in some form or fashion without the Power Rangers partnership, but I didn’t think that it would also die off. I know that PR isn’t technically dead because Hasbro is going to milk that thing for all it’s worth, but we went from three decades of consistent product to nothing and it’s been a shithole ever since.

Yes, there are rumors of this and that, but until something substantial happens and not just some random hack writer’s fantasy sways at Screen Rant being passed off as actual news, there is no reason for me to believe that this franchise is dead and buried. Hell, Boom’s fancy new Prime series is supposedly coming to an end after sixteen issues and no word on what comes afterwards, if anything comes at all.

I wish I could be more upbeat about this, but right now, it seems like all we have to look forward to whatever Hasbro can squeeze out of those Mighty Morphin Member Berries for all their worth. Folks hoping that we’d go beyond that point had better get comfortable. You’re probably gonna get more MMPR whether you want it or not. Gone are the days when a WWE wrestler pulls down another WWE wrestler’s pants to reveal that they’re wearing Power Rangers Time Force underwear. That ain’t happening anymore. Now they’ll be wearing Ptera Ranger socks or something.

Eh… whatever. I’ve got the old shit to rewatch on Youtube… and the DVDs… I’m feeling fine right now.

Re-Ignition On Netflix

In dabbling the Netflix for my one-month stay on the service, I noticed that they still have the old MMPR episodes. For reference, this is Netflix Canada; not sure about the US, but the only things left on the service are the three seasons of MMPR, Beast Morphers, and the Dino/Cosmic Fury package… oh, and Once And Always is there too.

Curiously, they’ve replaced the 2010 reversioned MMPR run with the “new” Re-Ignition episodes. For those who don’t know, Re-Ignition is Hasbro’s latest recycling of the first season of MMPR; apparently upscaled to HD with AI hackery and with each episode having a tacked on “Mighty Morphin Minute” at the end of each episode featuring some poor voiceover dude trying so hard to be hip and cool to the younguns and failing miserably. I hope he got paid regardless. Anyway, Netflix has all sixty episodes of Season 1 under this Re-Ignition gimmick while Youtube is still at Episode 54 (the Trick Or Treat episode… one of a number of Halloween-themed episodes in MMPR was uploaded in the first week of December.)

So for those who are indifferent towards this whole rebranding thing, rejoice! There’s only six more episodes to go before this thing closes up shop and chances are we never talk about this again unless Hasbro decides to go full bore with this thing because it’s cheaper than putting out a brand-new show from scratch.

This is where I’m reduced to when talking about Power Rangers these days.

Damn, that’s depressing…

The Mandalorian Is The Reverse Turbo

In 1995, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie hit theaters; essentially a higher budget version of the Power Rangers television show with a much different tone from the usual fare. Two years later, the franchise got a second theatrical release – Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. This was more in line with the television product and not quite as high end. Minus some bits where a bit more money was spent in places, it could have aired as an extended television episode.

That’s the same feeling I got with the recently announced Mandalorian & Grogu movie that’s due next year… which feels like an extended episode of the Mandalorian show that people really liked (and I was on board with too… until they brought in out-of-shape Boba Fett and CG Luke Skywalker into the mix.) Honestly, there’s nothing about the trailer that has me genuinely excited about this thing… which, I suppose, is par for the course with a modern Disney production.

There used to be a time when a new Star Wars movie felt like an event… something that got people excited to look forward to, even if the final product ended up being less than what came before. Now it’s just a thing that happens and everyone goes “meh.”

How did we get to that point?

I DON’T Believe In Joe Hendry… (and other unrelated stories)

Well… that got your attention, didn’t it?

Contrary to the title above, this post has nothing to do with Joe Hendry… although I heard that he beat Miz at a house show some time ago. No doubt, we’re waiting for the right opportunity to give Miz his win back on Netflix, but enough about that. Let’s get to some other quick bits.

Although if you want me to mention some other piece of Joe Hendry-related info… I’m not so sure that he’s getting that John Cena match… unless TNA somehow forks over the brinks truck to convince John to make a stop at Bound For Glory or something… but then that will overshadow… anything in that fucking company… like NXT superstar Trick Williams being your TNA World Champion for… some reason. Because WWE, there we go. I’m done with the rasslin’ bits. Let’s move on.

So we’ve just concluded the third season of Strange New World this past week… an interesting piece of business if there ever was one. I’ll hold off my thoughts on the season for a later time and instead look forward to the next television offering coming up in the form of Starfleet Academy… something I wish was just compilations of some kid’s let’s play of the old PC game redone with proper acting bits, but alas, it’s a continuation of 32nd century Star Trek. I’m sure some folks have a problem with this. My only concern is whether the show is any good. If it is, I keep watching. If it sucks, I’ll move on to something else.

I will say that the recently announced Voyager game intrigues me somewhat. I’ve never been that big into strategy games – I’ve played a few, but that’s about the extent of it – however, the ability to dictate the actions and journey of Voyager and possibly going against the grain of how the series progress is fascinating (no pun intended) and giving players the choice of whether Tuvix lives or dies is a tempting selling point if nothing else. More of this stuff and less mobile garbage, please. Thanks.

In case you missed it, Hasbro is putting out a “new” version of Mighty Morphin dubbed Re-Ignition, which is just the old MMPR show with a slightly new title card and new Mighty Morphin minutes that the Power Rangers Youtube channel also upload as shorts if that’s all you want to watch. My guess is that somebody visited the Kitchen Nightmares Youtube channel, saw that they were able to repackage the same episode ten times over without diminishing returns, and figured that they could do the same with MMPR.

For curious parties, you can still watch the original uploads of MMPR that were put up years ago and the quality isn’t all that different from whatever they’re putting up now. Supposedly, it’s been upscaled to a higher resolution, but it doesn’t look any better than before. It’s just a lazy re-up. As much as people hate the reversioned MMPR from 2010, at least they TRIED to freshen up the product so that it didn’t come across as a glorified rehash of vintage material. You can’t even say that much with THIS latest rehash.

That’s all I’ve got… later.

Third Time’s A Why?

Source: https://www.ign.com/articles/mighty-morphin-power-rangers-and-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-reunite-for-third-crossover-series

For the olds… remember the days when Ninja Turtles ruled the roast of children’s entertainment before Power Rangers became a thing and there were always debates to which was better? And then we got Shell Shocked… the less said the better.

But then decades later and we didn’t just get one proper crossover, but TWO. And now a third one is coming along and I’m like… meh.

Don’t get me wrong. I actually enjoyed the first two crossovers. They were fun reads… but when you did the Turtle Rangers in the first mini and then you do the Mutant Rangers in the second mini… is there anything left to say with a third mini? At this point, we’re just mashing toys together and the appeal of these crossovers – which seem to come out thrice per month – are lost. This sort of thing used to be a rare thing that felt like an event… now it feels like business as usual and it’s hard to get excited over this stuff.

Oh well… for what it’s worth, I am somewhat enjoying the current Prime series that Boom is putting out. I have reservations about certain aspects, but it’s doing its own thing and surprisingly, I actually like it. I do need to catch up on the current TMNT run, however.

Re-Ignition? More Like Regurgitate. HA! I Kill Me!

Hey, if they’re recycling something old, then so am I.

Hasbro has begun uploading episodes of their “new” Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Re-Ignition series… which is basically an upscaled version of the first season of Mighty Morphin with an added “Mighty Morphin Minute” featuring some annoying dude spouting some trivia and lore. Other than a slight change on the title card and also that one minute of whatever, it’s the same Mighty Morphin series you’ve seen countless times, but now it looks “nicer” or something.

You have to admire the hustle on Hasbro’s part… or maybe they’re following the Gordon Ramsay approach of uploading the same content over and over for several years while finding new ways of spinning it so that it doesn’t seem like you’re watching the same stuff over and over again. For those of us who actually go on the channel to look up the playlists, you can find most of the old Power Rangers seasons organized into playlists. They’re not Super Duper 16K or whatever, but at least you don’t have to wait for the slow drip and there’s no punk kid trying to sound cool spouting facts over a show that was around long before he was a fetus in his mother’s womb.

I miss Dave Mallow.

New Power Rangers Series On Disney+

Source: https://www.thewrap.com/live-action-power-rangers-hasbro-disney/

Described as a re-invention of the franchise and headed by two guys whose names I can’t be bothered to recall… hence the link to the original source article so that you can read it for yourself.

No solid details at this point, but I’m pretty sure anyone clamoring for a continuation of the old show are going to be disappointed. This looks like it’s headed in a new direction and I’m… eh. How about we let it play out and see where it goes?

Screen Rant Is Worthless…

Why is it that whenever I look up news for a specific franchise – let’s say Power Rangers, for example – most of the search results are glorified opinion pieces from Screen Rant. If there’s an article that has the brilliant clickbait headline of “30 Year Mystery Solved” or whatever the case may be, they’re usually referencing something from the comics… which generally exist in their own little world independent of the TV continuity.

Screen Rant has a lot of these pointless articles that feel like I’m actually getting dumber with each passing word I read from that site. I get that it’s a site called Screen Rant, but none of these articles come across as “ranting.” They’re just rambling nonsense. I know quite a bit about that. I’ve done that myself. It’s not something that you should be paying for as either a consumer or an employer.

Please, do me a favor. If you want to reference something my way, please don’t let it be from Screen Rant. I will just ignore you. Thanks.

About Prime…

I haven’t made mention of it as of late because I really didn’t want to say anything until I had anything substantial to say, but for those wondering, I have been reading the Power Rangers Prime reboot comic book thing. As a matter of fact, I’m still reading the book, which should tell you volumes about where I’m at with this book. Is it as good as people say? Not sure I want to go that far, but it is good enough to keep my attention and readership for the foreseeable future… which, again, speaks volumes.

Right now, I’m holding off actually saying anything until I’m fairly confident that we’re done with what’s essentially the “first chapter” of this new series. I’ve written some notes here and there, but I don’t want to jump too deep into this until I’ve read more story and who knows how long that’s going to be. Once that’s done, I’ll probably sum my feelings in the form of a PR Reflections post somewhere down the line.

Anyway, this is a post to let you know that I’m reading Prime. I’m been reading Prime since it started. While I have some thoughts on Prime, I’m not quite ready to articulate those thoughts to printed word… not yet anyway…

The Myth Of The White Dragon

So… any word on Legend Of The White Dragon?

For those who don’t know, this was the Jason David Frank passion project that was originally pitched to be a “Green Ranger solo” film before opting for something similar but with the serial number filed off. There was a crowdfunding campaign (well, there were two; one failed, but the other succeeded). There was some mild hype among the JDF fans… and then JDF passed away and this was being touted as a tribute to the man.

They had announced a couple release dates before postponing. This was months ago. Since then, radio silence. What the hell is going on with this film?

Listen, I’ll be honest. Having seen a couple of the trailers… I wasn’t particularly impressed with what they had shown off in terms of footage and stuff, but if it’s good enough to appease the JDF fans who wanted to see his final film, that’s a win regardless of what I think. However, the fact that nobody seems to have any clue as to what’s going on does concern me somewhat. I’ve seen a bunch of former Power Ranger actors get together to make a movie that also got crowdfunded and never saw the light of day. It seems to have been mostly forgotten, but I didn’t forget because I’m mentioning it here. Anyone willing to ask Karan Ashley what’s going on with that film since she’s had a hand in it or is that considered to be as taboo as bringing up a tasteless Rangerboard running gag to Tracy Lynn about how she ate the skulls of children or something like that?

I wasn’t a fan of JDF when he was alive – mostly due to his online antics that rubbed me the wrong way. But the last thing I want is for his final work to never see the light of day due to negligence or incompetence. The longer the people behind this film stay silent on its status, the more people you’re eventually going to burn and turn off on the whole thing together. Is that what you want JDF’s final legacy to be? A thing that he put his heart and soul into that’s never going to see the light of day because of… reasons?

People want answers on what’s going on with this thing. Hopefully, they get them sooner than later.
