Dark Horse Comics Losing Star Wars License In 2015

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Disney owns Star Wars. Disney also owns Marvel. So why renew with a third party comic publisher when they have their own? One has to wonder what is going to happen when twenty years worth of Star Wars comics, though. Will they be reprinted under the Marvel banner? Or forgotten and cast aside in favor of a possible new universe?

Or does anyone really care here?

The Final Panel Of Maximum Carnage

From Spider-Man Unlimited #2, the final issue of the 12-part Maximum Carnage event that inspired a hit video game. Note the headstones as Spider-Man talks about monsters staying dead and buried.

A few years later, Norman Osborn would be brought back to life at the conclusion of the much-maligned Clone Saga.

A near decade or so later, Harry Osborn would be seen alive and well in the much reviled One More Day storyline.

Suddenly, that one quote doesn’t seem so true…

The End of Amazing And Why I’m Cool With It

So… Amazing Spider-Man is no more… here comes the Superior Spider-Man…

I guess I shouldn’t worry about spoiling the final issue since it’s been out for a while, people know about it, and are most likely complaining about it… so if you haven’t read the book… you had your chance.

So I Saw Dark Knight Rises

Generally speaking, it’s almost on par with the previous two films in Nolan’s Bat trilogy. A near-three-hour movie might seem long, but there was never an instance where I felt like falling asleep and even the duller moments kept me interested in what was going on. Bale’s Batman still sounds like crap, but Tom Hardy did a good job with Bane, who finally got a proper cinematic treatment compared to the character’s butchering by Joel Shoemaker in Batman & Robin. And the movie’s end (won’t spoil it here) is a fitting, almost appropriate closure to the trilogy while leaving the door open for a possible return to that universe. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

So yeah. Rises was pretty damn good.

IDW’s Shredder

Funny how things work, you know? Back in the original Mirage series, Shredder was offed in the first issue. Brought back to life later on and killed off once more (permanently) when the original TMNT cartoon was in its third year… with Shredder as a main villain. And yet, here we are on a new comic building up on a character that was essentially a throw-away. Funny how that works.

As far as this rendition of Shredder? Looks like he’s human and not a shell for a Utrom like in the 2003 cartoon (like the cartoon, but hated that version of Shredder). Then again, not much is known at this point, so who knows what the deal is. At the very least, I like the new design. Nice and simple, yet imposing at the same time. Sometimes, it’s the little things that work.

Mighty Mutanimals

While I was in the john one day, I was rumaging through the magazine basket and pulled out an old copy of the collected Mighty Mutanimals miniseries published by Archie Comics. For those who have no clue what I’m talking about…

Once upon a time, Archie Comics used to publish Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures, a comic series loosely based on the original animated series. Starting off as loose adaptations of early episodes, the series would then segway into outlandish adventures that included man ray fillets, intergalactic wrestling matches, mutant jaguars named Jagwar (conceived in a union between a wildwoman and a jaguar spirit… don’t ask), and a flying cow’s head. Those were good days. In any case, Archie decided to compile some of these non-TMNT anthrophomorphic animals and turn them into a team. Or something like that.

So yeah, I was reading this and thought… “Hey, this could make a great review.” Maybe… we’ll see.

First, I gotta get all this MMPR stuff out first.

Amazing Spider-Man Trailer Is Kinda… Meh.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=86680

So they just put out the Amazing Spider-Man trailer, the reboot of a ten-year old series that was needed because we couldn’t let Sam Raimi do the Spider-Man movies he wanted and thus we go with this somewhat uninspired take.

Looks nice, but I’m not digging this “untold story” angle that they’re going for here. Not only is the Spider-Man origin story the furthest thing from “untold story” you’re going to get, but it seems like they’re retooling it to be some sort of destiny thing as opposed to being by chance. Not to mention that I’m not a fan of the suit… but hey, they brought back the Spidey wit; something that was missing from the Sam Raimi entries.

Cautiously middle of the road on this one; looking forward to it, but not particularly impressed thus far.
