DTM BLOG Classics #02 – SD, Euro 2004, Spider-Man 2

What a piece of crap yesterday’s Smackdown was. WWE champion Bradshaw doesn’t make it any better. Now I’m not going to sit here and discuss how that move is so wrong in many different ways because it just isn’t worth it.

Looks like it’ll be Portugal and Greece this coming Sunday in the finals of the Euro 2004 tourney. The opener is also the finals. You have to give props to both teams, as expectations were against them and they’ve surpassed all other teams to make it to the top spot and compete for the championship.

Spider-Man 2 is out for some time now. Haven’t heard much about it, but from what I’ve read, it’s better than the first… so it can only be a superb-er-er flick.

DTM BLOG Classics #01 – Great American Bash 2004 Thoughts

Great American Bash didn’t fail to disappoint. It had all the endearing qualities and quantity of stupid and illogic that had made WCW pay-per-views what they were in the day. Good lord, what stupidities have happened on this show? Oh, where to begin?

– Bradshaw is the new WWE heavyweight champion. As if Smackdown wasn’t bad enough…

– You’d have to wonder Percy Pringle’s face when he signed on to return as Paul Bearer. “Okay, Purse. You’ll show up at Mania, take two months off, show up again, get kidnapped, and be buried in SEE-MEANT by Mark.” Dang.

– I would have been more content if the card was just the U.S. title match (good one), the Cruiserweight title match (Rey/Chavo delivers whether you want to admit it or not), the SEE-MEANT crypt match with Taker ‘killing’ Bearer, and the bag of shit that was the WWE World title match. Instead, they added these jobber matches that aren’t even suited for Sunday Night Heat. And do we really need another Sable/Torrie match?

– Chicks in bikinis… yep, the illusion is shattered. This is a WWE pay-per-view.

What a crappy PPV. It’s almost sad that just a short couple years ago, THIS was the superior show.

Anyway, that’s it. Hope everyone has a Happy Canada/Independence Day…

No More Wrestling Rants

“When’s the next Wrestling Rant, Dave?”

There is none.

If you want to read my thoughts on wrestling, just read the Bite. I don’t have the energy to keep up with two features at once, especially if the other feature is talking about this awful wrestling that’s on TV.

That McSon-In-Law versus Steiner match nearly broke me.

That was so bad.

I’m amazed how much damage a single Panda did to the direction of this company… but then again, whether they got the F out or not wouldn’t have made much of a difference because they were headed for shit, either.

I’d go for TNA… but do I really wanna pay ten bucks a week for more Vince Russo on my TV?

I’ll bare the WWE product because it’s better than the other one… but not by much.

Dave’s Wrestling Rant #4 – Dec. 16, 2002

(2020 Update: This was the last edition of Dave’s Wrestling Rant, as I ended up talking about wrestling stuff in the Bite commentaries.)

Another rant from me… DAVE! If you enjoyed my brief TV reviews, thanks. Sorry I couldn’t put up the same thing last week, but I only watched RAW last week and figured it was not worth an entire rant, so I’ll leave last week’s comments here first…

Note: The whole commentary was written on Friday, but was never posted. Therefore, some items will be outdated. Just a head’s up.

Dave’s Wrestling Rant #2 – Nov. 24, 2002

Welcome to the second edition of Dave’s Wrestling Rant.

RAW 11-18-2002
The good news is that the show was actually watchable and featured some good matches to say the least and skits that didn’t bore the living crap out of me. The 11-25-2002 show will feature a match between RVD and HBK… but of course, something tells me that it won’t happen.

SMACKDOWN 11-21-2002
Another quality show from the Smackdown show, including a nice scene with Brock Lesnar throwing Matt Hardy through a table…

NWA-TNA PPV 11-20-2002
Vince Russo is Mr. Wrestling III? Some people were quite shocked by this and I don’t understand why. Because he’s a booker and not a wrestler? Because of the fallout rumors on the Internet? Who cares, as long as the shock booking worked… then again, maybe people are shocked that Russo has a job after he helped kill WCW.

Oh yeah, Jeff Jarrett is YOUR new NWA World champion… and that’s not much of a shock, man. Still, very good show.

That’s all I can think of. The rant will probably be updated every Sunday night or so.

Dave’s Wrestling Rant #1 – Nov. 11, 2002

Welcome to the first edition of Dave’s Wrestling Rant.

RAW 11-4-2002
The good news is that the necrophilia angle has been ditched. Vince McMahon has finally realized that these stupid angles are stripping RAW of the viewership and fan base it is desperately trying to keep. Admittingly, it was a slight improvement over the week before, but it was still too boring and uninteresting. Tonight’s RAW has two matches that have potential: Triple H vs. Booker T and RVD/Kane vs. Christian/Chris Jericho for the tag straps.

SMACKDOWN 11-7-2002
The tag-team match between Rey Misterio/Edge and Kurt Angle/Chris Benoit was the whole F’n show! It more than made up for the stupid proposal angle earlier during the show (the less said the better.) Compared to this, Billy & Chuck’s gay wedding angle seemed like a good thing.

NWA-TNA PPV 11-6-2002
I didn’t catch the show, but I plan on catching the next one. From what I heard, this product is getting a little better.

WWE Confidential 11-9-2002
I didn’t get to see Confidential, but from what I read from 411wrestling.com, I didn’t miss much. I also discovered that the proposed Scott Steiner interview that was supposed to happen didn’t happen. Man, what a crock. I was one of the few people who was actually anxious to watch this show and see what it had to offer.

WWE Heat & Velocity
Who gives a rat’s ass about Heat & Velocity?
That’s all I can think of. The rant will probably be updated every Friday or so.

PPV Predictions – WWE Summerslam 2002

Summerslam 2002 was the show that signaled the changing of the guard, as it would feature the end of the Rock’s tenure as a regular WWE Superstar and the rise of Brock Lesnar as an unstoppable main event force in WWE… for about a couple years, at least. Not only that, but this was the show that brought Shawn Michaels back in the fold after four years of retirement… yeah, we’ll see how long his second retirement lasts before he gets the itch to jump back in, but he seems to mean it this time… and it was on his terms… somewhat.

I recently got myself an copy of the show from one of my friends and gave it a watch for the first time in years. I enjoyed it for the most part. So yeah, here are my picks from 2002, the end results of the match, and some recent thoughts and reflections on the show.

PPV Predictions – WWE Vengeance 2002

Once upon a time, a long time ago, back in 2000, I did a quaint little website called DTM Webstation… it was online, but rarely untouched until about a couple years later when I had regular internet access. Around that time, I started doing a series of commentaries quaintly titled “The Bite.” Essentially my own rambling blog before such blogging ease was available to the masses or at least any that I was remotely aware. The Bite commentaries covered whatever came to mind, but one of the things I did in those commentaries was do quick predictions for then-upcoming WWE PPV shows, from time to time. Once I started up the DTM Blog, those predictions became a regular feature and the Bite commentaries became… well, obsolete.

The first PPV that went under the prediction knife was the 2002 iteration of WWE’s Vengeance PPV. The format from back then is quite different from what would eventually be used in more recent times, but I’ve been tweaking with the format a bit so that it’s a bit more uniform when all of these things get reposted.

In any case, you’ll find some predictions, the end result of each match, and some more recent reflections on my picks. I wouldn’t consider these to be reviews of shows, because more often than note, some of these picks and results documents (especially the earlier and later ones) do not have any quick thoughts on the show. I’d consider adding them, but that would require that I still have the show in question… and most of the 2002-2003 stuff is scattered across the cosmos. Still, if I have a chance to check the shows out, I may update these posts with quick overall thoughts.

It should be noted that that results were added in later on when PPV picks spawned into their own section on the old DTM Webstation. Also, despite using the 2012-2013 republished versions with updated annotations, all PPV predictions are published during its original timeline.
