Reviews Resuming This Friday

For anyone wondering, I’ve been out of action recently and this is the first time that I actually got to sit on my proper PC where I usually do all this stuff. If all goes well, reviews should resume this coming Friday and follow a Monday-Wednesday-Friday upload cycle until the end of the year at least, with one or two weeks dedicated to “special five-day” deals.
Also, yes, this exact post was posted last week, but everything was pushed back a week due to some stuff. Sorry.
The reviews in question:
#897 – Metagal (Switch) – Sept. 2nd
#898 – Classic NES Series: Metroid (GBA) – Sept. 5th
#899 – Metroid: Other M (Wii) – Sept. 7th
#900 – Metroid Dread (Switch) – Sept. 9th
I might post up a special “House Show” deal sometime prior to make up for lost time.
Gotta run. Later.

Feeling Better… Let's Have A "Feeling Better Week" Week

So I’m feeling a bit better and am ready to get back into the swing of things. As such, next week is the “Feeling Better Week” Week. Monday to Friday will see two posts; one being a written post that’ll be published 12:30 A.M. and a video review will soon publish at 12:30 P.M. This will give you five written posts and five video reviews that week. Next Saturday (June 30th) will feature a new Wily Challenge video for the Archive Channel and the following Sunday (July 31st) will feature a new Sunday Gimmick Table featuring a long overdue product for the masses.

That’s the plan. It’s going well. We’ll see afterwards.

No Review Today, Pausing On Dynamites

I’m currently in the dumps… as in I’m writing this blog post on my laptop while in the john and it’s been tremendous fun waiting for the drizzle to stop. It’s that time of year where I’m currently having to put up with some timely bowel pains. Nothing that a few choice medicines can’t fix, but it has taken a toll on the fun stuff that I usually post on this here blog. So today’s regularly scheduled review has been pushed back to Monday and we’ll just continue from there.

As far as Dynamite musings are concerned… yeah, I’m going to pause on those. To be honest with you, I missed the last episode this week, only managing to catch Wardlow’s TNT title win as well as the Christian Cage/Matt Hardy interactions. From all accounts, it was a nothing happening episode of Dynamite with some good wrestling, but nothing important happened. They’re apparently building towards the next ROH PPV, which probably means a bunch of stuff to try and convince people to buy this show. I’m wondering if this is AEW’s way of getting more PPVs on the cycle without actually booking more AEW PPVs on the cycle.
Personally, I’m not all that interested in ROH and quite frankly, if that’s where the focus is going to be, then I might as well give the show a rest for a little while. The fact is that I want to watch AEW for the AEW stuff. The stuff with New Japan and ROH does nothing for me. I don’t care if those shows are going to have good wrestling. I can get good wrestling anyway. It’s not something that’s in short supply at the moment.
When AEW is ready to start building towards their All Out PPV and when we’re done having Mox defend the Interim “I’m Just Keeping The Belt Warm Until Punk Comes Back” title against midcard guys, then I’ll jump back on board, but until then, I’m giving this show a rest. I’ll follow second-hand reports, but that’s about as far as I’ll go. I’ve got stuff to do in the coming weeks and I’d rather focus on stuff that I can get into. Don’t worry about me as far as the wrestling goes; I’ve got that covered.

A Quick Note Regarding This Weekend’s Forbidden Door PPV

Well, last night was another edition of AEW Dynamite and by proxy, the go-home show for this weekend’s upcoming Forbidden Door PPV where AEW wrestlers will face off against New Japan wrestlers and a couple titles will be on the line on top of that.

I will not be watching that show.
Here’s the thing. I like the AEW schedule of having four PPVs a year; it makes them feel special. And after years of monthly WWE PPVs with most of them not being worth it, I don’t have the stomach to put up with another minor PPV a month after the last one. But perhaps the one thing that drove me to my decision is the lack of sufficient built towards this show. I watch AEW on a regular basis, but my exposure to New Japan has been extremely limited. I know names, I know faces, but that’s about the extent of it. So I thought that AEW would take the time to introduce some of these names and help the AEW audience unfamiliar with New Japan and give that audience some emotional investment and reason to care about this upcoming Forbidden Door.
I did not get that.
As someone who doesn’t watch New Japan, I didn’t have the handicap of coming up with dream matches and scenarios that more than likely were not going to happen on this first (or possibly only) collaborative PPV. The appeal of such a crossover piqued my curiosity, but that’s about all it did. Naturally, the thought of another PPV so soon after Double Or Nothing gave me pause and while I wasn’t holding lofty expectations for the final card, the one thing I needed – a reason to care enough to buy this show – was the one thing I didn’t get.
No doubt some folks will argue that whatever the card ends up being, it’ll be a great wrestling show and I have no doubt that will be the case. AEW is capable of putting out great wrestling product and New Japan has certainly proven itself more than capable of putting out a wrestling product leagues above its contemporaries. The thing is that we live in an age where we can get good wrestling anywhere and everywhere. There’s plenty of streaming services, plenty of tapes and DVDs floating around out there, and hell, there’s some free good matches you can look up on Youtube that are legally broadcast for the masses to see. I don’t need this show for my fix of good wrestling.
But what I do need is a reason to care, a reason to get invested, a reason to spark that interest that will prompt me to buy this show. A bunch of multi-man matches and two guys competing for the right to keep the AEW World title warm while current champ CM Punk is out of action is not exactly setting my world on fire. And don’t get me started on that whole All Atlantic International World Global Legends Western States Heritage Big Gold Super Heavy Metal Weight World Championship thing.
This is the first AEW PPV that I’ll be skipping and as such, there will be no PPV musings on the show as a result. I’ll find something else to ramble about in its place and if not, we’ll skip a week in this case and we’ll dive into the WCW stuff in July. I doubt I’m going to ruin everyone’s day with this overblown “I’m not watching” announcement, but if someone is wondering where that Forbidden Door musings is at, stop wondering because there isn’t one.
Maybe down the road, I’ll change my tune. But not anytime soon. And if you’re watching the show, I hope you enjoy it. I’ll be doing something else this long weekend.

Painful Stomach Things Force Wrestlemania Weekend Reviews

So… plans change again, eh, pal?

This was going to be a daily thing, but sadly something I ate put me out of action and I’ve got nothing done. I haven’t touched the proper PC in a good while, which meant I’ve been doing posting on the laptop from my bed. So we’re saving them updates for the weekend.
If all goes well, we could see a couple reviews on Saturday and a couple more on Sunday.

All Plans On Hold For The Moment…

So something has come up and unfortunately, it means I need to focus on that thing at the moment.
The PPV Musings will continue on Wednesday since most of them are scheduled to be published automatically and they were done months ago, but stuff like reviews and such will be put on hold until further notice. I’ll try and get the X8 up as soon as possible, but everything else is up in the air.
Thanks in advance for your understanding. Hope to get back to you soon…

Slowly But Surely

In case you haven’t heard the opening spiel of the canned edition of the DTM-Cast that was uploaded this past Sunday, I’ve been dealing with some health issues the prior week, which explains the radio silence. It’s nothing too serious and things are getting better, but I’ve been off the radar for a while and I’m slowly getting back into the groove of things.

Videos will be coming up eventually. I want to maintain the two reviews a week schedule, but when those videos will be up is another story. The uploading of old commentaries over to the Archive channel will be a slow process. There’s a couple other things I want to touch on.

PPV Musings will be on hold for a while… mostly because nothing is ready yet and I’m not even sure that I’d even want to watch Summerslam this Saturday. I’ve got a couple other ideas in the interim and they’re not even related to wrestling or gaming. Yay, something different!

Bare with me, folks. It’s going to take a while to get things back to a semi-regular basis. Hopefully by September… in the meantime, I’ll try to keep up with some daily posts here and there. Maybe find some old content to add in the interim.

New Video Commentary Page In The Works

I threw together a WIP page for the video commentaries. As video commentaries are (eventually) re-uploaded, I’ll throw a link to the relevant pages. That way, you can keep track of what’s ready to go. Speaking of which, the first three commentaries are up on the Archive channel. They’re unlisted, but can be accessed on the blog or through the appropriate Video Commentary playlists.

(2025 Update: Never mind. The link is long dead and we’re back to square one. Oh well…)

An Update On The Video Commentaries

A couple quick notes:

So earlier this month – or was it the end of last month? – I made a post in regards to a Youtube technicality that prompted me to deleted all the old video commentaries from the DTM Rambles channel. The deal was that a change in the algorithm would affect most unlisted videos and that I either had to let them be public, fill out a form to keep them unlisted, or simply re-up them again. Naturally, I have gone with the third option since the commentaries are old and I’d rather not have them be commented on by really dumb people who believe that stuff is relevant today.

So here’s the deal. I’m going to attempt to upload a couple old commentaries onto the DTM Archives channel, the secondary Youtube channel I’ve got laying around that spent its days as an archive of Mega Man Maker videos. The original intent of the channel was for all the odds and ends that didn’t fit the main channel and since video commentaries are no longer the in-thing around these parts – or at least not as much as they used to be – I suppose the whole bunch of them would now be considered oddball.

Anyway, I’m going to try on there first and if things go smoothly, it shouldn’t be a problem to get those videos up and about. But if it turns out to be problematic, then it’ll be off to the Dailymotion mines.

As for what version of the commentaries will be up… it depends.

For the most part, a good majority of these commentaries are being re-rendered from the original Vegas source material, with only the intro and outro bits being swapped and maybe a couple text additions for title cards and such. However, some of these will be straight re-ups of the old files since the original Vegas sources were wiped during a hard drive crash ages ago.

We’ll give this a shot and I’ll let you know where things stand when I have news to offer.
