TNA Impact (Jan. 15th, 2026) – Abandoning Mere Competence

Hey, where’s that guy in the banner?

I don’t know… ask me again when I decide to do NXT or even Smackdown, which I probably never will.

In any event, it’s the first Impact to air on AMC, which is apparently a big deal to have a wrestling show on a channel that primarily focuses on… oh wait, they do more than classic movies now? They have original content? Who doesn’t have original content these days? Why the fuck would they want someone else’s wrestling show when they could just make their own? They’ve got fucking money, no? They’re the Breaking Bad people, the Walking Dead people? Who the fuck said “Goshdarn, we need a fornicating wrestling show!” If they’re that desperate, why not call the Juggalos and get their show on the air? At least they have a guy that… actually, you know what? Never mind.

So I had this on the DVR and I figured… sure, why not give it a watch? New era (so to speak) on a new channel, may as well give it a dive and see if things are looking up or if this is going to be a one and done deal.

Although I gotta be honest… I miss Joe on this show, already.

*waits*

He’s not appearing, is he?

*sigh*

Now I don’t know what to believe…

THE BITE COMMENTARIES #13 – John Cena Gives Up

Yes, we’re talking about this a month after the fact. And yes, the dust has settled a bit. And yes, there will continue to be discourse surrounding the end of John Cena’s legendary WWE run. And I had not really planned on giving this subject matter much more thought than the one post I did last month… but a couple things occurred that caused me to give this more thought than necessary and this, along with a message that came my way a short while ago, sort of dawned this epiphany of sorts as it relates to this whole deal.

Unfortunately for those hoping for another voice in the “John Cena Shouldn’t Have Lost” or “John Cena Shouldn’t Have Given Up” camp, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for you. In fact, I’m going to highlight something that you folks SHOULD have figured from the very beginning of this whole Last Time business.

Does Kathleen Kennedy’s Departure From Lucasfilm Actually Mean Anything?

Source: https://filmstories.co.uk/news/kathleen-kennedy-steps-down-as-lucasfilm-president-praises-ai/

So I guess there’s going to be a particular sect of fans and film viewers who will be throwing huge parties over the departure of (now former) Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, who had been running the ship since 2012 when Disney bought the company and has had a rather debatable influence on the various Lucasfilm properties she had overseen… I think that’s a diplomatic way of saying it. You may be cheering for this or you may be possibly sad by this outcome. I honestly am ambivalent towards the whole deal, but regardless, I wish her the best in all her future endeavors.

I’m just wondering if this actually means anything in the long run because to me, Kennedy was just the head of a division who generally follows mandates from people above her pay grade. To me, the Disneyfication or Marvelizing of Star Wars into a cinematic universal property to be exploited and mined for content would have happened regardless of whoever was in charge. I’m sure she’s had some say on what happened with these properties, but at the same time, is a changing of the guard really going to mean anything going forward or is it just lip service to cause a bit of ruckus before we settle back to the usual routine?

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see who gets the position now and whether they’ll actually affect the way Lucasfilm and its properties are treated, but after that, it’ll be business as usual and nobody will wiser. I make mention of this, but I will forget this soon after.

GameStop Stopped Gaming Long Ago

So, some folks may have shown concern about Gamestop closing up hundreds of stores in the US at the start of the new year and I am wondering why people are so concerned. Aren’t we supposed to hate GameStop because they’re scummy people? Or has the narrative changed at some point?

Obviously, you feel bad for the people losing their jobs and also you kinda, sorta feel bad for losing a place that sold your games… but honestly, you step into a GameStop these days and what do you see? Walls of Funko pops, random anime and comic book merchandise, toys, action figures, collector’s pieces… and then somewhere along the way, you’ll find a small space dedicated to, you know, games.

But then again, this has been the GameStop operandi for years, hasn’t it? Once I stepped into a GameStop and started seeing more Funkos than games, that’s when I called it quits and stopped going to GameStop for my gaming wants or needs. GameStop used to be the place where you could get used games for decent prices and I’ve amassed quite the collection of Xbox and PS2 games as a result… but nowadays, even the used games hold their worth, even with they’re just selling the disc or Switch card.

And even when I did dive into a GameStop once or twice, it’s mostly to pick up a figure or two… maybe a game if they had a used copy cheap enough… but even that, I can get from Amazon or Best Buy.

If anything, I’d feel bad for the smaller, genuine gaming shops if they were to close down. My usual place at the old flea market shut down and I just barely made the final week… and the other place that’s still there is becoming more of a merch place than a gaming store. Fortunately, I found this other place in Montreal that specializes in video game stuff… if only the parking wasn’t so shit… and also, obviously, the pricing on these things. The loss of THAT place, along with others like it, would pain me more than the loss of a GameStop that I haven’t stepped foot in for years.

Still, some folks will lament the loss of these stores and hopefully if you’re one of those folks who has a GameStop close to them close up shop, then hopefully, you’ll find some other means of continuing your gaming needs in some form or another. But just to level with you folks… Gamestop going away isn’t worth shedding a tear over.

Not these days, anyway…

WCW Monday Nitro (Jan 15th, 1996) – And Then Public Enemy Appeared

We’ve got a rather eventful episode of Nitro this week where a couple of significant things happen going forward. And it’s actually a pretty good episode as well.

Finally… Disney Afternoon On Switch (and Switch 2)

Source: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2026/01/an-overlooked-disney-collection-from-digital-eclipse-has-been-rated-for-switch

Apparently, Switch (and Switch 2) owners will be able to get the Disney Afternoon Collection some time this year. This was a 2017 compilation of six NES games developed by Capcom comprising two Ducktales, two Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, one Talespin, and the termite that devours your floorboards himself, Darkwing Duck.

I have this on Steam, it plays fine… but this should have been on Switch as soon as the console was out. What the fuck took so long?

New Power Rangers Disney Force Coming In 2027… Meh

Source: https://www.superherohype.com/news/646913-power-rangers-disney-tv-show-release-date-reboot

For those who don’t want to click a link, the largely unknown Power Rangers reboot is allegedly due to see release sometime in 2027, with shooting to start in March and a massive promotional campaign to follow. With Super Sentai coming to an end, this enables the reboot to become its own thing rather than recycle material from another franchise.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, a fresh start is probably the way to go if you’re not going to continue what came before and you really want to put your own stamp on this thing. On the other hand, though, it’s going to be a Disney+ co-production, which is a massive red flag considering how their involvement pretty much killed Doctor Who for me. Granted, there was never a point where I felt a reboot had any hope, but anything involving Disney these days is going to be the kiss of death.

I hope I’m wrong. I want to give this thing a chance… but I’ll wait until reliable word of mouth and not the usual white noise proves that this is something I’d actually want to watch. Otherwise… well, there’s plenty of old Power Rangers that I haven’t watched yet. Maybe I should give that a shot.

Moment Of Zen

Hello, kids. This is your wayward old fart who writes silly, irrelevant things on this here web log as well as occasionally craft silly videos that a very minute number of people watch for some reason that causes me to question their very sanity before thanking them for their continued followings.

And I would like to drop in and let you all know that things may be looking bleak right about now, but there are plenty of things to be positive about. And no matter what happens, if you put your minds to it, you can do anything you want in life.

Yeah… yeah…

Unless Jay Leno wants to do it too…

How long before he takes over this space?

800 Year Old Holo-Doctor Terrifies Cadets And More…

A clip from the upcoming Starfleet Academy show featuring Robert Picardo as the Doctor… yes, the same Doctor he played in Star Trek: Voyager… what’s that saying about the more things change?

How much of this show is Picardo actually in? I might tune for his bits alone. The rest of it… eh, we’ll see when the show premieres on Thursday.
