Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, because this will be the first of several wrestling related musings to be uploaded within the first hour of the day… before the main event…
To anyone who used to bitch about WWE doing live RAW shows on Christmas, I give you WCW Monday Nitro – live from the Civic Center in Augusta, GA on Christmas Day 1995… but hey, they gave us a hell of a show, not the least of which included the Macho Man defending his WCW World title against the Nature Boy…
…in a match that ended in a DQ due to outside interference from Lex Luger, as this alliance between the Horsemen and the Dungeon Of Doom would continue to confound me were it not for the fact that they would eventually participate in the ultimate Hulk Hogan power fantasy in a few months time. In the meantime, the match itself was pretty good. Would have been nice if it had a proper finish, but I guess they’re saving that for the PPV.
Oh yes, this is the go-home for the Starrcade ’95 PPV that would take place a couple days later and would see Ric Flair win his 12th World title in a victory over Randy Savage. That’s something to look forward to, I guess?
In other matches, Lex Luger squashed Scotty Riggs via TORTURE RACK, Sting wins a short match over Big Bubba Rogers via the deadliest move in professional wrestling – the dreaded ROLL-UP! And Dean Malenko defeated Mr. JL in a short but fun match. This was all about the main event and trying to get excited for a PPV that I’m not going to watch unless it’s already on the WCW Vault and I somehow missed it.
