WCW Monday Nitro (Sept. 11th, 1995) – Sabu Debuts

For anyone wondering… I do plan on eventually making a nicer banner for these Nitro musings rather than reusing the old banner that I made for the final Nitro episode musings that I wrote ages ago. Sure would be nice to have something a little more lively for these things.

In any event, this is episode 2 of WCW Monday Nitro and the first episode to go head-to-head with Monday Night RAW. Unlike last episode, which took place at the Mall Of America, this takes place in a proper arena and so we have the classic WCW Nitro set.

Right off the bat, we get another surprise in the form of SABU (yes, that Sabu) making his WCW debut against Alex Wright, whom he finishes in quick fashion and then to top things off, he then puts poor Alex through a table, which prompts the ref to overturn his decision and give the win to Wright. Well, Sabu in WCW is going to be an interesting thing to observe for however long he sticks around, so that’s something, I guess.

In other matches, U.S. Champion Sting retains his title over Michael Wallstreet (Rotunda) in a nothing match, Randy Savage and Scott Norton had a bit of match before Macho snaps into Norton with the elbow for the win, and the main event between Hulk Hogan and Lex Luger ends with a run-in from the Dungeon Of Doom.

Oh, and Ric Flair cuts a promo to continue his “feud” with Arn Anderson. I say “feud” because anyone who knows anything will know where this is headed and if you don’t… eh. You’ll figure it out. Don’t worry.

So that was episode 2 of Nitro. Some stuff happened, the matches were perhaps not of the caliber of the first episode, but that’s to be expected. We did get a World title match out of it and that’s not something you would expect out of weekly wrestling television unless it’s a replay from a big arena show or something.

Not a strong show, but stuff was happening in this 50 minutes. We shall continue this endeavor.

I ramble about things.

Keep your comments nice and clean and we'll be fine. Thanks.
