I’m a little lagging in these Impact things, so rather than talk about the AEW PPV that I didn’t watch or the AEW Dynamite show that I also didn’t watch, I’m going to talk about the Impact show from last week that I did watch.
With only two weeks left before the PPV takes place (one less due to prevailing circumstances that I can only offer thoughts and prayers to those affected), Impact is going to have to rush things in order to set up the card and for what it’s wotth, they did about as good of a job as they could on short notice.
The main event sees TNA Champion Nic Nemeth teaming up with his Bound For Glory challenger Joe Hendry to defeat First Class (AJ Francis and Navaro) in a tag match that had Nemeth and Hendry trying to outdo one another while still staying on relatively good terms. Naturally, something has to give… especially with the specter of the wrestling god himself, John Layfield, looming in the distance. It seems almost amazing to me that in a world where we’re building towards a Bloodline Civil War as well as Cody’s continued story of getting stabbed in the back by would-be allies in WWE and where Bryan Danielson just had his last match as a full-time wrestler putting over Jon Moxley’s new Combat Club group in AEW that may or may not debut some guy named Shame, the thing that is most compelling to me is this Joe Hendry/Dolph Ziggler/JBL story… in TNA. Welcome to 2024.
In other news, Laredo Kid won a 3-way match, the match between ABC and the Hardys ended in a double-DQ due to System interference, which I presume will lead to a three-way at the PPV for the tag titles, and there was a women’s trios with a couple NXT girls that I largely skipped over because I just want to get to the Jordynne Grace/Masha Slammovich blow-up so we can get that ball rolling. Also, Mike Santana vs. Moose is on for BFG.
All in all, not what I would call a great show, but still an easy two hours of wrestling to watch and we’re getting some build-up for the PPV. If nothing else, it’s miles above the last TNA show I watched that took place on October 10th… not a high bar to beat, I’m sure, but still…
