2000 Games By 2025?

Took a trip to a local store that sells retro game stuff… first time I came across this place and probably the last time I’ll be stepping foot in person. A bit of a shame, because it’s a nice looking place, got quite a bit of haul, and the people there are quite nice… but the parking in the area is quite shit and on top of that, this is near one of the major roads in Montreal and that road seems to be in a constant state of being under construction.

In any event, I picked up a couple things here and there; WWE All-Stars on PS3, Bible Adventures on NES, a PS1 compilation of arcade games, and an old Intellivision game that uses the Intellivoice accessory. (You know, the one made famous by BEE SEVENTEEN BAWMER!)

As I am updating my game listing, I do a head count of all the games I’ve amassed so far… this list only covers the physical pick-ups; there are hundreds of digital pick-ups spanning multiple storefronts and consoles that are nigh impossible to catalogue because half of them are forgotten. Anyway, on last count, including the incoming batch of Famicom games coming sometime next week, I will have amassed approximately 1870 games. And should there continue to be an influx of pick-ups here and there, there is a distinct possibility that I may very well hit the 2000 mark some time next year.

These past few months have been something of an anomaly. I’ve not divested this much in the game collecting thing in a long time; primarily due to time and space concerns. Money also comes into play here… but recently, I’ve just lucked out on some good bargains here and there. The jump into the Famicom fold has certainly opened up a new avenue of exploration into that field. Turns out that some of the games that are uber-expensive on the NES side of things are quite cheap on the Famicom side… though most of those are RPGs and there’s a reason those aren’t in such high demand to those who are NOT fluent in the Japanese language. Still, what started as mild curiosity to test out a new HD NES console gimmick has turned out to be its own little adventure, much like the vinyl side of things.

To tell you the truth, I’m not quite sure if I’m genuinely back in the hunt or if this is just a fling that’s going to be out of style after a while. The closing of my usual go-to for gaming stuff obviously puts a slight dent on that situation and also there’s other life concerns that take precedence over this silly hobby of mine. That and the increasing prices across the board might make this recent run a short one. No more was this evident when I came across a small pizza joint that I used to frequent a long time ago, back when they used to offer two slices of pizza and a drink for five dollars. This was a decade ago. Now two slices and a drink costs twice as much, and I doubt the tips are any better in that regard.

Pizza was still as good as I remembered it being, though. I’ll give them that much.

In any event, this was a revelation that I had recently. Does this mean a return of pick-up videos or anything of the sort? I don’t know. Would that interest anyone these days? I’m not so sure. I used to remember when game collecting was a thing I did and I just wanted to show off this cool stuff I found, but now I feel like the whole deal has gone in a different direction that I remember it being. If I do a pick-up video these days, is it to show off some cool stuff I found or is it just a way to flaunt some shit and add an inch or two to your junk? Hell, has it always been like this and I’m just figuring this out now?

Maybe… maybe not… but one thing is certain…

Bible Adventures is a mortal sin that somehow exists.
