I was bored. Needed some background noise. This popped up… figured why not.
Anyway, this took place in Toronto. Chris Jericho is from Winnipeg, you idiot.
So John Cena announced his retirement on this show… and then he announced that he would have his last Wrestlemania match next year… and then at the press conference (or whatever they call these stupid things these days), John Cena announced 2025 will be his last year wrestling full-time and he’ll have about 40 dates on his calendar. Sadly, this is about the only major thing that I got out of this show, as the rest of it was… eh.
Drew McIntyre won the Men’s Money In The Bank ladder match, which also featured Jey Uso, LA Knight, and some other guys. Jey Uso had the match won until Drew tossed a ladder in his face and got it for himself. This was a perfectly acceptable ladder match where you had enough spots to fill the quota and none of them were particularly dangerous looking… so that lessens the possibility of anyone getting hurt for real, which would be nice to have. Drew winning the briefcase is… certainly a choice, but it also leads into the World title match that’s coming along later.
Intercontinental champion Sami Zayn defeated Bron Breakker to retain the title in a pretty good match. Like most people, I was surprised that Bron didn’t win this one since they’ve been pushing him like an unstoppable monster, but I’m not quite as passionate about that as some people are. I could sort of understand if you thought this was a baffling move, but I could have gone either way. Sami playing the underdog versus the much larger Bron works fine in this case, but can we can the underdog thing if we’re pitting Sami against someone his size?
Consolation World Champion Damien Priest defeated Seth Rollins and last-minute MiTB cash-in Drew McIntyre to retain the title with an assist from Man Child Phil, who once again screwed Drew out of a title win. Not only that, but as stipulated beforehand, Seth can no longer challenge for Priest’s World title, so that’s another guy that this shitstain has pissed off. The match was fine until the Drew cash-in, but if all of this is supposed to make me cheer for Phil, it’s not working. I feel bad for Drew. He’s always getting screwed over by this piece of shit. Fuck Phil. He’s an asshole.
Tiffany Stratton won the MiTB match, which includes local geek Chelsea Green (who people wanted to see win and… yeah, no, thanks, anyway), Glow “Naomi” Girl, Lyra Valkyrie, and a couple other ladies whose names I don’t recall, but presumably they’re all on the injured list because this match was a disaster. This felt like a play where people were missing their cues and everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong. The Toronto crowd did chant that this was awesome – because they appreciate failure – and the commentary tried to pass this off as some great display of women’s wrestling, which may be true if your only exposure to women’s wrestling was Sharmell vs Jenna Morasca or Shelly Vs. Rebel.
Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga defeated Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton & Kevin Owens in a six-man tag match that saw Solo pin Cody with an assist from Jacob Fatu to establish Solo as the next challenger for Cody’s title, presumably at Summerslam. The match itself was a typical six-man tag match affair; the sort of thing that would’ve been perfectly fine as a TV main event, but they’re headlining a PPV and this felt like it was missing something. Perhaps a surprise debut or maybe some hot hook for the future, like a return or two. As far as Summerslam goes… Cody vs. Solo doesn’t feel like a big deal and I’m almost of the consensus that Solo has no chance of winning this one, but part of me feels that they might pull the trigger just to give this Bloodline thing a bit more meat and I really hope they don’t that because that would be stupid. I don’t need Solo vs. Roman for the title and then we go back to the way things were. That would be stupid.
So that was Money in The Bank… it was a show… not much more than that.
