This was the Rebellion go-home show and for anyone asking, yes, I did watch the Rebellion PPV and a musings will be posting this coming Wednesday… and yes, I actually chose a TNA PPV over a stacked AEW PPV… no regrets; I can go back to that other show at any time, but naturally, this episode being the last before a big TNA PPV… eh…
Nic Nemeth comes out to talk about failure to win the World title, which brings out Broken Matt Hardy… because he’s back now. This also brings out the System, who talks about Nemeth wanting to be the next Kurt Angle, but is more likely to be the next Eric Angle… which is a bit of a low blow; have some respect for the dead. Then Santino Marella – who is the authority figure in TNA, but is still doing the Santino Marella gimmick and the Santino Marella accent and we’re supposed to take this seriously – comes out to break things up.
Speaking of Santino Marella, he organizes a ballot system to gather votes for the next challenger to Mustafa Ali’s X-Division title… the winner ends up being Trey Miguel, but accusations of BALLOT STUFF comes up and Santino opts for a number-one contenders match next week. I’d call this “vote” a waste of time, but I actually like Ali’s politician-inspired gimmick and I was amused by the bits, so I can’t call it a total loss. Also, Jake Something wants a rematch with Ali and instead gets a match with Hammerstone for next week. Should be fun.
Josh Alexander defeated Frankie Kazarian in a fun little match to earn a shot at Moose’s TNA World title. Kaz was going to use a chain, but a bandadged up Eric Young swipes the chain and allows Josh to get the win. I heard about Eric Young’s bad accident at the PPV and then I saw it… not a pretty sight and I’m glad that he showed up for the tapings. Hopefully, he’s feeling better than he looks.
Sami Callahan wins a handicap match over Ali’s goons and then offers an alliance with Kazarian to deal with Eric Young and Mike Santana. So there’s a bit of intrigue there as well.
Eddie Edwards defeated Nic Nemeth with an assist from Moose in a pretty solid main event. Clearly, this Nemeth/Moose things is going to continue for a little bit or at least leave a possible thread open for the future.
So I thought this was a better than usual edition of Impact. There was stuff happening, some of it felt significant, and I actually had a good time with it. Do they have enough stuff to carry on to the next PPV? I guess we’ll have to…
Wait, what’s that? There’s a TNA+ event coming up… IT’S THIS WEEKEND?!
Oh shit, I completely forgot about that… two week build to another TNA+ special, huh?
Oh well… still a fun show regardless.
