Impact (March 28th, 2024) – Nickle And Dime

Hey, this is being posted on a Sunday! What gives… oh wait, tomorrow’s April 1st.

The show opens with what was dubbed as an “8-4-1” match… and the way this works is that eight women enter the ring to form two “four-women” teams. The winning team would go on to have a four-way match amongst themselves and the winner of said match would earn a Knockouts title shot at Rebellion. The idea seems ridiculously convoluted… and it kind of is. We have two teams of four women fighting each other and the “8” part of the match is won by the group featuring Dani Luna, Xia Brookside, Rosemary, and Ash By Elegance… oh, wait just a minute, King. Ash By Elegance has a toothache and can’t compete, so out comes her replacement: Steph De Lander, who is often seen in the indies paired up with Matt Cardona… and sure enough, Cardona shows up, hits one of the other girls with his move, allowing Steph t score the pinfall and the title shot. This didn’t really work for me and I think part of that… well, the concept itself wasn’t something I was too keen on initially, but it also has to do with the match being a bit on the short side – less than ten minutes, I think. Seems like everything was being rushed due to time constraints. I don’t know if they did this before, but if this is their first time, maybe give it a little more time next time.

The rest of the show was largely a blur – some promos and matches used to build towards the PPV – but none of that matters because we had Steve Maclin defeating Chris Sabin in the main event. Part of me was surprised to see Sabin lose somewhat decisively… presumably he’s on his way out or something. But regardless, this was the only other thing of note on this show and it was a tremendous match to boot.

Listen, I’ve had more to say about this show compared to last week. But right now, a lot of this stuff is roughly a blur. Not a good sign considering I might want to watch this Rebellion PPV. Still, if a show being unmemorable is the worst thing I could say about an episode of Impact, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sure, the show isn’t as great as it was early on, but it hasn’t reached the depths of total trash.

I pretty much jinxed this show, haven’t I?
