Impact (January 18th, 2024) – Here We Go Again…

For those who didn’t get the memo… TNA Wrestling is in the midsts of a brand new era… again.

And yes, I can call it TNA Wrestling because they changed BACK to TNA Wrestling after years of calling themselves IMPACT Wrestling. And to be fair, I probably wasn’t the only person who was still calling them TNA. And so with a big name change, we invariably need

Technically speaking, this new era began with the Hard To Kill PPV that took place a couple months back, where they crowned a bunch of new champions and also featured the TNA debut of one Nic Nemeth a.k.a. the former Dolph Ziggler. Not even one show out of the woodworks and we’re already hiring WWE rejects.

Opening match was a six-man “let’s give a bunch of guys something to do” match that was won by someone called Jake Something… I guess we couldn’t come up with a better name, so we get Jake… Something, yeah, go with that. Fun while it lasted, I guess.

In all honesty, I ain’t got a whole lot to say about this show. There’s some recaps on what happened with at the recent PPV (will have to get around to watching that one of these days), finally get to see Xia Brookside in a match after hearing all about her and she seems pretty cool. Grizzled Young Veterans get a win over the TNA veterans of Eric Young and Frankie Kazarian… which results in Frankie turning on Eric Young. Either he’s frustrated about losing to the former NXT team or he’s reminded of all those unfunny Eric Young comedy bits from the early days of TNA and would rather put Young out of his misery so he doesn’t revert to that. Well, it’s a feud, at least.

Nic Nemeth – the former Dolph Ziggler who made his TNA debut at the PPV – talks to the audience about stuff before TNA veteran Steve Maclin comes out to taunt Nemeth, which leads to a scuffle. So that’s a feud. This is followed by former Knockouts champ Glow Girl challenging current Knockouts champ Jordynne Grace to a rematch for the title… I’d imagine that Glow Girl is not winning that match.

PCO kills some dude in a quick match and this is followed by Josh Alexander and Will Ospreay putting on what the cool kids call a “banger” of a match. Absolutely tremendous piece of business that saw Alexander get the big win and I guess Ospreay is off to AEW… or is he doing anything else beforehand?

And then the show closes with Scott D’Amore giving a bit of a rah-rah speech declaring TNA is back, baby! And then the show ends.

Hey, you know what? This was a pretty damn good show. If you didn’t watch the PPV and this was your first look into the new (or reborn or rebranded or re-whatever) TNA, this was a good show to get you up to speed. That, along with that fantastic main event, made for a superb edition of TNA Impact. One worthy of kicking a new era of sorts.

But you want to know the truly funny thing about this whole deal?

I not only liked this show… but I actually can’t wait for next week’s show.

I certainly can’t recall the last time that’s happened with Impact, but here we are. It seems like after all this time, TNA is giving a weekly television that I might actually want to watch on a regular basis. And you know what? I may even want to talk about said show on a regular basis.

How about that?
