Anyway, good to hear that all is well with Joe and he’ll be back in action sooner than later. While I’m sure some folks will find the timing of all this somewhat dubious – and believe me, I wouldn’t put it past WWE to use an actual terminal disease as a gimmick to try and get one of their stars over – I give them the benefit of the doubt and set aside my cynicism for once.
Some time later, I went to a wrestling page’s comment session and noticed someone thinking this whole Roman thing is a work and being called a lowlife as a result. I posted the following as a reply and thought it’d be worth reposting here.
“To be fair, given what they’ve done in the past with other somewhat sensitive topics, I wouldn’t put it past WWE to use someone’s real-life illness as a cheap gimmick to try and get someone over. Hell, given the timing and the tweets regarding his acting, there have been times when I would question whether this whole ordeal is real or just another sad attempt at trying to get Roman over… because “this time, for sure, pal.” And that does bother me quite a bit.
“So I’m not shocked that some people would believe this whole thing to be a complete fabrication nor do I think of them as callous or mean-spirited. However, I believe this case to be genuine and am happy to hear that Joe is doing well and on his way to getting back on the road. As far as I’m concerned, that’s the only thing that really matters here.
“Let others believe what they believe. If they’re wrong, they’re wrong. And if it turns out they’re right, they’re right. So what? Life goes on and Roman gets booed again sooner or later because we’re suppose to hate Roman or whatever the current narrative is.”
Anyway, that’s that.
