(2024 Update: Unearthed for the first time in years and never before published is the lost January 11th, 2012 Bite commentary that was written before the 2012 Royal Rumble. I don’t know why I never posted this, but this would be the last genuine Bite commentary written, as the next one would be brief and the actual final commentary is more of a lookback than a commentary proper.)
Welcome to another Bite commentary… man, I haven’t done one of these in a while, have I?
You wanna know something, folks? When you have a blog that’s more convenient to use and much quicker to post thoughts online, there’s little reason to stick with a format that doesn’t quite fit. The Bite Commentaries, more than anything, were a bunch of quick thoughts thrown together. More often than not, it’s a place where I would bitch about stuff.
Quite frankly, I’m not sure that there is much to complain about as of late. The top two belts in WWE are being held by CM Punk and Bryan Danielson (or Daniel Bryan, if you prefer… I prefer Daniel Bryan Danielson in hopes that we can satisfy both parties or simply because it amuses me). A guy who was written off as a jobber for life got himself over with a popular Youtube channel and was rewarded a U.S. Title run for his efforts. Despite some hiccups involving McSon-In-Law and Big Lazy, the shows are actually starting to show some promise. Granted, it’s hard to be optimistic when they had something easy to push and they just bungled it, but sometimes, on rare occasions, WWE can do some good with the easy or even the most unlikely stuff. We’ll see how long this optimism lasts.
TNA… well, they’re still around, I guess. Haven’t seen a lick of their show for a while, which probably works out for me because I have no clue how anyone could watch that garbage and consider it good. I feel bad for the talent there moreso than the bozos behind the creative, but maybe some day, they’ll figure it out… maybe… maybe not…
Netflix is showing some value… you’ve got the Star Trek shows, you’ve got some Power Rangers shows, some fun movies that I’ve sampled here and there – hoping to talk about some of those down the line – and there’s even a couple other things that I’ve stumbled across that piqued my interest. I’m actually digging this Netflix thing more than I probably should. It’s giving me most of the entertainment value I’d get off the screen these days and most of it involves old programming from a decade or so ago. Is that a sad tale of things to come? Maybe?
You know… I think I’m starting to come around on this New 52 thing. Yeah, there have been some quibbles here and there, but it hasn’t been all that terrible. I’m still not a fan of that Superman suit or the Harry Potter look for ol’ CK, but so far, the stories haven’t been entirely terrible… I may move on to something else after a while. Now that we’re settling in, the excitement or anticipation or whatever feeling there was in the beginning is long gone. Maybe I’ll go back to reading some other stuff… did anyone at Mirage remind Peter Laird that there are people waiting for the next issue of TMNT Volume 4?
I know some folks are going to read this and they’re probably wondering how I’m feeling somewhat jovial on things that were listed as losers in my annual year in review list a week or so ago. Well, it’s a new year. You hope things work out for the best. You try to be optimistic about things. That’s what people keep telling me. They tell me about this light at the end of the tunnel… all I see is more tunnel, but I have to assume that there is a light to be found.
The collection has been going well. I’ve been enjoying some Colecovision as of late, even though I’m not exactly getting the best picture quality. I might need new wires. Also, the controllers aren’t all that fantastic, but not as completely unusable as I feared. If all goes well, we might add another console to the list of potential video fodder.
Speaking of which, I’ve been experimenting with some new mics and sound settings. Seeing what gives me the most vocal clarity. It’s a work in progress and also I’m on a budget. I keep reminding myself not to treat this like a job; this is something I do late at night to kill off the insomnia and also amuse myself. Sometimes, it works. Other times… eh…
The dog is doing well. I just took her out for a walk in this dreary winter weather. She handled it better than I would. She kinda stinks, though. I’ll give her a bath when I’m done with this.
Yep…
I’m just saying things, now, aren’t I?
Might as well end it here.
We’ll see if we do another one of these, but if not, then there’s always the blog once we’re back from hiatus.
