WWE Heck In A Cell 2011

A down-and-dirty recap of last night’s PPV… maybe I should be more timely with potential picks, but whatever…

– Sheamus defeated Christian in a pretty decent match. Sheamus needed a good win and he got it here.

– Sin Cara Blue defeated Sin Cara Black… who gives a rat’s ass, really? I don’t understand the whole point of this feud… we already had Undertaker vs Underfaker in 1994 and Kane vs Fake Kane in 200X. Neither feud was excited nor were the matches any good. Why dip into that well again? Look, I know they tried to give this one a relevant backstory about stolen identities and whatnot, but it doesn’t change the fact that I don’t care about botch-machine Cara… or any of them.

– Air Boom (c) defeated Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger to retain the Tag-Team Titles in a rather ho-hum match. I felt this was designed to show the inability of Ziggler/Swagger to work together than it was to have a decent match of sorts.

– Mark Henry defeated Randy Orton in a Hell In A Cell match to retain the World Title. Good, glad that WWE didn’t drop their balls and shuffle the title back to Randy-boy. Whether you care for the guy or not – and I’m far from the biggest Mark Henry fan out there – the guy is on the role and looks to be a legitimate monster champion. I’d hate to see a potential monster heel get his legs cut off with a needlessly short title reign. As for the match itself… this didn’t need to be a Cell match.

– Cody Rhodes (c) defeated John Morrison in a bonus match to retain the Intercontinental title… quick and painless for what it was. The most intriguing development was Rhodes dumping the IC title in favor of a new design; essentially a highly-stylized version of the classic Intercontinental championship belt with the current WWE logo. Had no issues with the design they were using for the past decade or so, but I rather liked the classic design and I’m quite happy that they decided to go with a retro-ish design for the new belt. Personally, there’s another title I wish they would go back to a classic design on, but that’s a pipe dream at the moment.

Here’s a video that features a good look at the new/old title;

– Beth Phoenix defeated Kelly Kelly to win the Divas title… well, third time’s a charm, I suppose.

– Alberto Del Rio defeated CM Punk and John Cena (c) in a Triple-Threat Hell-In-A-Cell match to win the WWE Championship… thus setting us up for Cena Title Reign #11 in the near future. Seriously, what was the fucking point of Del Rio dropping the belt if he was just going to win it again? Not to mention that the WWE title has constantly changed hands every month or so since July… not cool. As for the match itself… meh.

– And then there was the whole post-match shenanigans. Some people liked it… I wasn’t too keen on it. I felt this could have happened on a Monday Night RAW or something, but if it advances the Miz/Truh/CON-Spiracy angle that’s going on at the moment, then yeah, it was alright, I suppose. I don’t know – maybe I was just desensitized by the initial Nexus invasion angle back in 2010 which did a far better job because the locker room wasn’t united for no reason whatsoever and the Nexus was allowed to run roughshod over the ringside area. But whatever…

Show was alright, I suppose. Pretty paint by numbers, nothing spectacular, you didn’t really miss much by skipping on this one… but I personally think they should just retire the Hell In A Cell at the point; the PPV’s pretty pointless and the matches in recent years are nowhere near as barbaric as the early days. But yeah…
