RAW (Aug. 15th, 2011) – BREAKING NEWS! Kevin Nash didn’t tear a quad walking to the ring!

Hell of a birthday present, by the way. The follow-up to one of the biggest bullshit moves you could pull off where you have a hot new champion and you job him to a cash-in after getting ambushed by KEVIN FUCKING NASH… and the show is just a thing that happened. Believe me, “a thing that happened” is perhaps the best direction WWE could go for on a sports-entertainment program taking place on my date of birth.

Some quick points:

– Amazing that the first thing to follow up an interesting PPV is a sleep-inducing HHH promo. Man, I don’t care whether he’s in a suit or in trunks; you’re never going to convince me that HHH is a top-notch promo man, especially when the best aspect of his promo work is that it can cure insomnia. And to top it all, we’re followed by an Alberto Del Rio promo that does little for me. You would think that a guy portraying a cartoonish villainous rich boy would make for a compelling promo, but it did nothing for me, probably less so now that he’s champion.

– A rather nice and brutal match between JoMo and R-Truth. Wasn’t too sure that I was going to be into this one, but I rather liked the match.

– Miz doing Subway promos… remember when this guy was WWE Champion? Yeah, me neither.

– Nice exchange between CM Punk and *gasp* Kevin Nash… who, fortunately, didn’t blow a quad walking to the ring. I’m sort of liking the “inside jabs” that have been prevelant in this segment, but WWE has to tread carefully. This is territory that certain people (TNA, for instance) like to dwell into all too often and if it gets too inside, you’re going to lose the casual folks who weren’t around when these inside things took place. Still, the promo work was rather nice.

– With that said, I’m hoping that Kevin Nash keeps out of active competition. He had his stint at the Rumble this year and that’s more than adequate. Just leave it at that and, if you really have to, let him have one match or two where he’s doing the right thing for business.

– Oh goodie, another ADR/Rey Mysterio match… not too shabby, actually. Not particularly amazing, but it’s nice that we end the show on a title match instead of OMG! MOAR TALKING HEADS!

– And so John Cena comes out and cries like a bitch because Del Rio cashed in and won the title, thus proving to the world how much of a sportsman he is. Compared that to CM Punk, who didn’t throw a fit because he’s done it before… twice.

Interesting show… no questions were answered, intrigue all over the place… certainly not as bad as I had expected it to be… not keeping my hopes up, but hey, we got a good show last night, so kudos for that.
