I’m going to make this commentary quick and short, since I pretty much have very little to say in regards to a bunch of stuff. So let’s cover a couple points and move on:
– RAW –
So the ratings for RAW this past week came in and it doesn’t look too shabby, coming in at a 2.8 which is the lowest rating the show got in two years… or something. I guess that Randy person can’t draw.
– NXT –
The third season of NXT may very well be the most entertaining offering that the series has put out. Not necessarily because the show was any good, but because of the announcing team of Michael Cole and CM Punk… shut up, Josh. You know, when they first announced that NXT 3 was going to be all-Divas, I was thinking, “Oh boy. This is gonna suck.” And make no mistake, the show itself is mediocre and if you were to watch it on mute, it no doubt would have bored you to tears. But the commentary more than makes up for it. Great, great stuff here. I’m almost sorry that this show is on the way out.
– FLOPPY NEXUS SHIRTS –
According to this pwpix.net article, WWE’s Nexus shirts were a huge flop and Vince McMahon was “mortified” as a result… Really, Vince? You’re taken aback by this relevation that nobody would want to buy merchandise on a group that was practically buried and eventually pushed aside? Really?
– STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN, TEKKEN X STREET FIGHTER –
I’m sure people are making a big deal out of this, but… I’m just not feeling it. Look, Street Fighter and Tekken are two big fighting game franchises, possibly the biggest in the genre. Okay, I get that… but they’re also two distinctly different styles – one being in 2D and the other being in 3D. If they can get it to work with their individual games, then great. Best of luck to both companies on this interesting endeavor. But the truth is I’ve already seen a 2D interpretation of Street Fighter vs Tekken…… It’s called MUGEN and I wasn’t that happy with it. But still, I’m gonna sit back and wait until the games come out before passing judgment.
Now, if Namco and Sega were to band together to create a Tekken X Virtua Fighter… then I’d be somewhat more excited. Somewhat.
– MEGA MAN UNIVERSE –
I’ve got really mixed feelings about Mega Man Universe… and mixed feelings about a Mega Man game isn’t necessarily good. On the one hand, I kinda dig the ability to create your own levels, customize characters, play as a whole bunch of other characters. I’m getting a kind of LittleBigPlanet vibe to it, but with a Mega Man aestetic. That’s rather nice. On the other hand… do we REALLY need another remake of Mega Man 2? Isn’t Mega Man 9 enough of a remake of that particular game? And don’t get me wrong; I enjoyed Mega Man 9 to death. I thought it was a great return to form, but as great as that game was, I felt that it was trying too hard to be Mega Man 2, what with the regression to gameplay from that title as well as a couple recycled music tracks. And I get it; Mega Man 2 is the one everyone feels is the best of the classic series. But is that kind of short-sighted to base the development of a game called Mega Man Universe on ONE game? For fuck’s sake, if I wanted a game that played like Mega Man 2, I’LL GO PLAY MEGA MAN 2! Or the fifty fucking million ROM Hacks out there.
But again, it’s too early to tell what comes out of this game… so I’ll wait and see before passing judgment. But my enthusiasm has severely waned at this point. Hopefully, something will change here.
That’s about it. Will post a couple videos up soon (actually have something up on YT now).
