RAW (July 27th, 2010) – Not Much Of A RAW Deal

So in a strange move for some reason (probably some overseas tour), WWE taped two Monday Night RAWs for the price of one – the show that aired last night followed by the show that will air next week. I’m going to wait until next week’s show to comment on it, but one thing I’ll mention is that Bret Hart (the crippled guy on John Cena’s little army) is apparently “training in Calgary” according to Michael Cole and will miss both shows. Training in Calgary accurately translate to Bret getting married over the weekend and presumably having a honeymoon of sorts. All snark aside, congratulations to Bret for his recent marriage.

Won’t go through the whole show because… well, in true fashion, I only saw the parts that remotely interested me. I’ll just comment on the bits I did see.

– The opening promo between John Cena and Chris Jericho was a fluff piece, but it did establish the lack of unison among the group that Cena has put together. This will be a key theme throughout a number of scenes, as Edge doubts the Great Khali’s ability, R-Truth and John Morrison bicker a bit, and at the end of the show, they’re all arguing with with each other for various reasons. Something tells me that Bret will be the glue that holds this team together… unless HE starts bickering about how he’s retired and how Cena screwed him or something. I wouldn’t put it past WWE to book such a thing, but then again, it IS Bret.

– It was announced that the 7-on-7 tag match at Summerslam would be elimination-style, similar in tone to a Survivor Series match. I’m guessing that this is going to take up the most time at the event…

– By the way, it just occurred to me that Summerslam is taking place on my birthday and so far, it’s shaping up to be a pretty decent card. Now I know that I’ve bickered last week about Sheamus Vs. Orton for the title, but we didn’t get fifty rematches between their Rumble match and Summerslam. Also, it isn’t Cena as champ, so I wouldn’t mind seeing this match in action. Hell, even the prospect of KANE defending his World title against Rey Mysterio seems promising, just to see Kane in his best World Title run ever. (Sorry, but his stint as ECW Champ doesn’t count.)

– The Nexus dominates seven other RAW spares that nobody cares about. They then proceed to talk, which is always a treat… for my mute button. Seriously, watching these guys try to talk and cut a menacing promo only to be followed by their non-threatening theme music is just sad. If there is one positive, it’s that they’ve been a relatively dominant force that has been repelled a couple times but hardly ever defeated in sanctioned matches. They haven’t been jobbed out as of late and they’ve been strong for the most part. It’s just a shame that I don’t particularly care for the storyline as strongly as I did when this whole angle began.

– Alicia Fox is terrible. Absolutely terrible. She could legitimately kill someone with that sloppy-looking axe kick of hers. I feel sorry for the Bella Twins. I don’t feel sorry for Jillian Hall, whose Britney-esque gimmick seriously needs to be ditched. But hey, look on the bright side; I actually remember all the Divas’ names in this match.

– Sheamus & The Miz beat John Cena & Chris Jericho in your main event. The losers then argue, which prompt the rest of Cena’s Army to argue as well.

Yeah, Cena’s Army kinda sucks.

Later.
