Getting to watch the RAW replay (still with commercials and thus with significant chunks missing), I actually found the show to be a nice little average show, which is about a step about the usual below-average stuff they crap out.
– Regarding the Bret Hart title win… for some people, this might be considered a nice little feel good moment that ends up, for the most part, being a means of mending the faces and giving Bret Hart a nice little send-off before fading into relative obscurity. And for what it’s worth, it’s a rather nice cap-off and a means of WWE making up to Bret Hart for that whole business ages earlier. So seeing it in THAT perspective, I don’t have much of a problem with this title win. I mean, don’t get me wrong; I roll my eyes thinking that the Miz tapped out to a Sharpshooter applied by a 52-year-old man, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t really matter. It’s entertainment, after all. And if the Bret Hart story ended here and perhaps followed partly by his surrendering the title and resulting in a tourney of sorts, then that’s cool. But if Bret starts defending the belt, then my previous statement stands and I hope Huckster doesn’t get any ideas.
With that said, I have to wonder about the “logic” behind this; Miz has been champion for months… since October, I think. And you’d think that if someone were to win the belt from him, that guy’s stock would jump tremendously. Long reigns are hard to come by these days; they shouldn’t be wasted on 52-year-old men on short-term contracts. But whatever.
So Bret Hart is the new U.S. champion, huh? Sure glad there pushing a young guy like Bret Hart in a top position. Only problem I have is that he needs to learn how to work.
Fuck you, TN-.. er, WWE.
– Of all the things they could have left out in Canada, they kept the stock John Cena promo in? Lame. Next.
– Edge vs. Christian? A nice opening match. Some people complained that they should have saved this for a PPV, but that would be foolhardy considering Christian has no real main event value and nobody in WWE is pushing for that guy to main event shows anytime soon. Sad but true. On the other hand, why is Edge scared of Undertaker? Hasn’t he beaten Taker a few times already?
– Batista learned a new submission move. Watch it mean absolutely nothing this Sunday at Over The Edge.
– I like the fact that a famed American astronaut is a guest host of a RAW sports-entertainment program emanating in Canada. Seriously, guys, you couldn’t find any local stars to feature on shows held up here? I’m sure they’d come pretty cheap.
– Why are there two Women Champions? Should I give a damn?
That’s about it. Will have some predictions for the upcoming PPV soon. Later.
