DTM BLOG Classics #23 – Lots Of Random Stuff…

A collection of random items, curiosities, and possible updates along the way. Right after the break…

Since I rarely got to talk about wrestling-related happenings, I’d figure I do it right now. So let’s get on with this:

The Power Is Back… no more. Finally, WWE got rid of their stupid slogan in their intros and replaced it with World Wrestling Entertainment. On the bright side of things, they kept the cool intro montage which dwells into their past a bit. Nice stuff.

So is Rey Mysterio going to be remembered as a great champion or some chump who happens to hold a world title ten times his size? After watching yesterday’s edition of Smackdown, I’d go with the latter. And it probably doesn’t help that he didn’t have much credibility going for him to begin with. Let’s face it: if Eddie hadn’t died, Rey wouldn’t have even been CONSIDERED to be World Champ material.

Is it just me or did TNA suddenly become the second coming of WCW? Wasn’t it just a couple weeks ago when I saw Sting team with some of the company’s brightest stars on PPV? Did I just see a picture of a recent TNA event featuring Sting, Luger, Bagwell, and… oh dear lord. I had such high hopes for this company and they’re already adding more dead weight than necessary.

On a related note, I actually enjoyed Kevin Nash’s stuff about how he made more money than everyone else. Having just seen his two-part interview… forget it. I’m not gonna talk about it: I’ll just link the stuff so you can see for yourself:

(2024 Update: Videos long since taken down. Sorry…)

A couple quick noteworthy:

– This weekend sees the release of DaVinci Code, the new Tom Hanks flick based on the book of the same name. Of course, religious groups are telling people to boycott it because of its content, but that never stopped the movie goer before.

– On the other hand, maybe the controversial nature of the Code is a little too much for simple-natured folk and they’d like to see a horror movie instead. Well, kids, also opening is See No Evil, the horror movie from WWE starring Kane. Haven’t read anything on this yet, but I don’t expect it to be anything more than a cheesy horror flick with a few … not that I’m complaining, because those are the best kinds.

– Of course, what does DaVinci and McMahon have with WTF? Why, it’s May 19th of course… GAK! I forgot Kane hates that date. But what’s so special about this date? Well, last year, Revenge of the Sith was released on that very same day. So now Kane has to put up with the fact that his cheap movie is released on the day when two movies of better quality were also released (albeit one of them the year prior)… Then again, it could be one of those random things that WWE comes up with and never makes mention of long after the fact.

– And while we’re still here, I should make mention that the Sci-Fi channel is set to debut a new ECW show in June. Someone would have to explain to the fine folks that ECW stands for EXTREME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING and not EXTRATERRESTRIAL CONQUEST WARFARE. I mean, seriously, what the fuck, man? ECW (or wrestling in general for that matter) is the farthest thing from science fiction that you can get… unless they have Nova come back and dress him up as a redshirt.

So ends another edition of WTF.

Later.
