DTM BLOG Classics #15 – No Image… No Context

A quick compilation of news that once featured a mock screen shot of Johnny Cage kicking someone. Since I no longer have the original image, it’s not included here. Anyway, on with the review.

So having watched a brief sampling of RAW last night after coming home from school, I can honestly say that it had been an excellent counteraction for my insomnia. Despite the gratuitous promise of live sex on national television, we’ve been bait and switched to yet another cornball sports entertainment angle to promote a main event match for a PPV less than a couple weeks away. Of course, the live breast that was censored did little to appease me.

What did I write about Cena and Batista a while back? Let me see…

Both have held their titles since Wrestlemania 21, which is an already incredible feat. And in my opinion, they’ve done pretty well thus far. Despite what the general audience and “insider fans” think of either one of these individuals, I sincerely hope that they make to Wrestlemania 22 with their title reigns intact.

Well, naturally, that didn’t happen. Edge cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase at this weekend’s PPV to beat an already battered John Cena (who had just endured the main event Elimination Chamber match) and win his first WWE World championship. Meanwhile, Big Dave Batista had to vacate the World title due to injury and a battle royal to crown a new champion was won by Kurt Angle.

As disappointed as I am that my prediction didn’t come true, at the very least, we got good champions to continue the year onwards. Edge looks like someone who could carry a World title (assuming WWE lets him) and it’s nice to see Olympic Bald Angle win a World title. With the Edge cash-in, it almost makes me regret not catching the PPV… almost.

But that’s not what this post is about. This is supposed to be me rambling on a bunch of stuff. Something that hasn’t been done in great length or detail since the days of the Bite commentaries (which I someday have to post).

Have managed to acquire a few DVDs and games over the holidays, including MK: Deadly Alliance (I already had Deception prior), Star Wars Battlefront II, and the GBA version of Tetris World for a good budget price. Despite GameFAQ reviews being lukewarm to brutal with this game, I found it to be somewhat acceptable… especially considering that the classic iteration of the Tetris game can be unlocked with a code. Overall, a nice little distraction from the drudges of real life.

The DVD side of things were completely wrestling-related. After two years of futile searching for a VHS edition (which does exist despite what some people claim), I’ve finally relented and purchased the DVD version of Wrestlemania 20. In addition, I’ve picked up two TNA Wrestling DVDs (Against All Odds 2005 and Destination X 2005 – both fairly enjoyable shows to say the least) and, against my better judgment, I forked down fifteen bucks for the Self-Destruction of The Ultimate Warrior DVD. Not that I’m a fan of a guy, but more to see how much of a burial McMahon has given him. Detailed reviews on any or all of these products forthcoming.

As a closing piece, I’d like to offer some insight from rajah.com in regards to the Doom movie that flopped:

In the December 29th edition of Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Rock’s action movie Doom was listed as #2 for the worst movie in 2005. In the article, it stated that the problem with the movie is “they tried to make The Rock act.”

Oh, now it makes sense. The Rock was being forced to act instead of being himself. That’s what killed the movie.

Morons.

Since this is a ramblings-related topic and not a wrestling one… aw screw it. What was HHH thinking when he smashed the Giant’s hand? Hasn’t he learned anything from Randy Orton, whose daddy used a cast as a weapon for the better part of a year? What does that make HHH?

In the words of Billy Gunn: He’s a fucking idiot.

Amen.
