Smackdown (Nov. 11, 2005) – A Sports Entertainment Tribute To Eddie

If you saw the Tuesday Smackdown Tuesday special that aired live, then you already know this stuff. If you haven’t, well, here’s what happened.

CHRIS BENOIT is beaten by BOOKER T in their second of Best of Seven series matches, making it 2 – 0 for the Book. It was a pretty good match from what I’ve seen, but I’m wondering if this means a clean sweep for Booker or if Benoit has a chance to pull out a win.

They air a video tribute to the late Eddie Guerrero, along with Rey Mysterio dedicating his upcoming match to his friend.

I’m not going to bother recapping the whole match, but suffice it to say, the “David vs. Goliath” tribute match (to Eddy) REY MISTERIO and BIG SHOW ended in a no-contest, due to Kane showing up, ‘Taker showing up, Ortons showing up, and an exploding lowrider… because apparently, we can’t have a tribute to a beloved wrestler who died for real without adding in a little sportz entertainment into the mix. My brain hurts watching this take place.

If Vince gets flack for something considered tasteless, then great. If he doesn’t, well great. Just remember that this is sports entertainment, the most tasteless form of entertainment in the world today.

Just saying.

(2010 Update: And if you think this bout of “Eddie-sploitation” is the worst it could get, you’d be proven wrong as Eddie’s name would be dragged to the mud for several months, including a Rey Mysterio World title reign (which he won in Eddie’s name) that was horribly booked and ultimately disgraceful in the long run. Nothing against Mysterio – he did the best he could as champion despite being on the losing end more often than not – but this title reign shouldn’t have happened in the circumstances it occurred.)
