I just got up from bed about a few minutes ago just to ramble a bit about a couple of things.
Firstly, last night’s show was piss poor, featuring what I thought was the most predictable ending. Many people might not see it coming, but I have. And the sad thing is when an stalely old hag kicking another stately old hag in the balls is your main event, you’ve got a problem. But enough about RAW.
So yeah, Capcom Classics. Since I’m not going to be updating the Webstation until next week (where I’m in the process of fixing up a nagging design problem), I might as well post a brief thoughts here. The selection of games are mostly ports from the old Capcom Generation packs that have been released on Japanese Saturn consoles from years back, but there are a few arcade games that they’ve managed to port in. This is a fairly good collection of classics that is definitely worth the cash. I still rather pissed that SF1 isn’t on here, but what’s here is still pretty good.
Obviously pretty strange to see a guy use a powerful system such as a X-Box to play video games from the eighties and nineties, but when you’re restricting yourself to budget titles, these retro-packs are truly your best bet. Sure, they’re old, but you might rediscover some of these classics and find them about as addictive as others.
Case in point were the first two Midway Arcade Treasure sets (fuck the third one and their mediocre racing games). I originally bought the second one first mostly to get my hands on arcade-perfect MK2 and MK3. Then I tried the other games and thought they were actually pretty cool despite their difficult nature. At that point, I had decided to search for the first set, which included other classics. After a few months of searching, I’ve finally picked up a copy of the first set and played for a few months.
I’ve amassed about seventeen X-Box games since having gotten on for Christmas roughly ten months ago. I’m aiming to pick up three more and even it out to twenty before the year’s end. These games do not and will not include overpriced games with all glitter and no gameplay – I haven’t the finances to afford that sort of thing. I have a couple of games in the collection that I had picked up and have since regretted doing so (although, to be fair, I picked up Brute Force for free and that wasn’t much of a loss). I didn’t enjoy them one bit. Does this mean I can’t enjoy a modern-day polygonal classic? Of course not, but it’ll have to be a really good game before I drop the cash for.
Now don’t mistake this as someone who is set in his ways (well, in a way, I am, but not in terms of gaming) This isn’t old-school thinking where I think all the old-school games were king and nothing in the modern age could compare to them. Bullshit. There are a good chunk of old-school games that are absolute drivel and I have played some of them back in the day. I have not played them personally, but reviewers seem to be trashing on the Tecmo Classic Arcade set because the selection of games is not worth being called “classics.” Honestly, my gripe was that it was thirty bucks (forty Canadian, but we’ll use American figures) and to charge that much for eleven games that only the most hardcore gamer would recognize is ludicrous. Even if it was a typical arcade pack for the typical budget price, I would be hard-pressed to pick the set up because there aren’t many games I’m familiar with.
Sorry for my rambling, but it seemed like it was a good way to make use of this blog besides posting wrestling-related tidbits. Also, that was the topic.
Apparently Russell Mulcahy, the director of Highlander, is slated to direct the eleventh Star Trek movie currently titled “The Beginning”. Great idea, guys. Now all we need is Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery to sign up so we can have the first Star Trek movie featuring immortals cutting each other’s heads off. Not that it’ll help return the franchise to its former glory, but…
Is Power Rangers SPD still on the air? Could we cut this show off early and start the next series? Please?
Seriously, I haven’t seen an ep of SPD since its first episode. I usually would try and give a show a chance before shitting all over it, but then I’ve heard all the bad stuff people were talking about and said forget it. When the team-up with DinoThunder was leaked, I downloaded it and saw it… man, did I make a good choice in ignoring this series or what? They say you can judge one episode for the quality of a series, but I say we can make an exception in this case.
So that’s it for my rambling. You take care, okay?
Later.
