Classic Bite Commentary #11 – September 10th, 2002

Greetings friends. Things were rather hectic again here at home which prevented me from posting a new commentary, so I’m sorry and thanks for your patience. This was supposed to be up on the first of September, so stuff added on that day is here. Then we move on to the current comments. So there, two days for the price of one!

Single… again (9-1)
First he walks out. Then he bashes his wife. Then he goes to jail. Now Steve Williams (Stone Cold Steve Austin) has filed for divorce. Yes, his marriage with Debra is over. I’d like to say I didn’t see this coming, but it was bound to happen… and to think this all started with walking in protest of jobbing to Brock Lesnar.

(2015 Dave Says: Steve Austin would return to WWE in 2003 and we’d know more about the reasons for his “taking the ball and going home” that he would regret in later years.)

The Current Big Thing (9-1)
Speaking of which, Brock Lesnar is your new Undisputed WWE Champion, apparently the youngest champion there is. I would like to say something stupid like “I’ll give it two weeks,” but ol’ Brock will be champion for quite a long time… unless McMahon has anything to say about it. While on the subject of Lesnar, did anyone who watched the PPV notice how the crowd was cheering Brock and jeering Rock? It looks like singalong with the Rock… is over.

(The Rock would come back in 2003 as a heel.)

From the STUPID FILES (9-1)
Sometimes, I really have to check something before I go out. For several months, my printer laid on my desk collecting dust, probably because I thought I needed more ink. Since I couldn’t afford ink, I couldn’t use it. When my birthday passed, I finally bought black ink. The dilemma came about when I discovered that the printer still had ink left… and lots of it too. I had wasted thirty bucks (Canadian) on a cartridge of black ink that I didn’t need after all! Oh well, at least it’s good for a back-up.

(I no longer have a printer these days. Sad face.)

The FOX BOX in 2 weeks! (9-1)
Next week, Fox Kids airs for the last time before becoming the FOX BOX! You know what this means, folks? NO MORE DIGIMON ON FOX! Unfortunately, it also means no Power Rangers, but it’s moving to ABC so who cares? If later episodes turn out to be shitty, then I have Ultraman Tiga to fall back on… and if that sucks, there’s always my old tapes!

(The new season of Power Rangers at the time was Ninja Storm, which I initially didn’t care for, but it eventually grew on me. As for Ultraman Tiga – essentially a dub – I recall it being alright for the most part, but I barely remember any of it now.)

Megaman X5 for PC (9-1)
This past week, I bought Megaman X5 for my PC… that is, I bought it up north instead of having to go to the States, as was the case with X4 and Street Fighter Alpha 1 for PC. I found it to be rather challenging because my bullets don’t go through solid objects anymore. Other than that, it’s a nice game. Before you starting blasting me about X6, bear in mind that I don’t have a PS1 or PS2. So these PC ports are the closest thing I can get to playing the games. (Plus emulators like bleem! are impossible to find up here – they wouldn’t work anyway).

(I’d eventually get my hands on a PS-One and “enjoy” all the X games on that platform. I no longer have my copy of X4 for PC, but I still got X5 and SFA.)

Capcom vs. SNK Pro on PS1 (9-1)
The little people who still have their Playstation-1 systems can now play Capcom vs. SNK Pro. I don’t get it. Why is this coming out recently and not when Dreamcast got theirs?

(So that I can get a copy when I buy a PS-One.)

NWA-TNA… um… (9-1)
Does anyone still watch this thing?… Anybody at all?…

(TNA is still around… for better or worse… I’ll leave that up to you.)

Kung Pow! (9-10)
On a brighter note, I’ve recently seen Kung Pow on Pay-Per-View and laughed my ass off.

NWO: Back In Black (9-10)
I’ve also recently seen the WW(F)’s piece on the NWO (which is currently on VHS, DVD, or this month on PPV). Quite frankly, when I saw the running time of the tape, I failed to see how they could cover the NWO’s history into that short amount of time. As usual, I was most disappointed in the WW(F)’s efforts in this regard. The tape covers Hogan’s early WW(F) run, Scott “Razor Ramon” Hall’s WW(F) run, Kevin “Diesel” Nash’s WW(F) run, the beginnings of the nWo in WCW, Hogan’s WCW title win, the Giant (Big Show) joining the NWO, and the tape soon jumps right over to the nWo debut in the WW(F). Surely, the idea of doing a good 2-3 hour retrospect on one of the most important wrestling factions in the history of the business shouldn’t be that difficult, especially with the vast amount of WCW videos that has been acquired. It is truly a shame that in the end, and this might not seem like it, Vince McMahon not only destroyed WCW, but is also trying to make us forget about the company as well.

(We’d eventually get that a decade later and it’s a pretty good retrospect with some decent amount of bonus content.)

4H (9-10)
Speaking of which, I have yet to see ANYBODY come out with a video on the history of the Four Horsemen, another important supergroup in wrestling history… and no, a Ric Flair video does NOT count…

(We’d get that eventually too… it’s pretty good.)

Okay, that seems to be it for today. Until next week… FIGHT ON!
