Classic Bite Commentary #06 – August 4th, 2002

Good morning, boys and girls. Today, I want to keep this short and sweet, because not much happened in the past two days. So I’ll touch up on two topics and that’s it.

Confidential
Last night’s episode of Confidential featured a report on the Fall of AOL/Time Warner’s WCW. It was a pretty informative piece that has kept my interest and featured guys who were with the company during the late 1990s, so you know you were getting true insider stuff. The subject was split in two. However, the beginning of the second half was kind of confusing… at best, kind of funny… why? Well, to explain it better, I should quote Gene Okerland’s intro speech:
“What would you think if I told you the real demise of WCW started in the 1997 WWF Survivor Series? It was called the screwjob in Montreal, but who really got screwed that night? The wildly belief was Vince McMahon cheated Bret Hart out of the WWF championship and his legacy, insiders were saying the WWF was desperate, and in their desperation, had made a fatal mistake that would mark the downfall of Vince McMahon’s empire.
“In hindsight the only person who really got screwed that night? Eric Bischoff. Stay with me for a second. The move that was supposed to signal to be the end of the WWF was actually the beginning of the end of WCW.”
Okay. Okay. So from that little bit there, you expect us to believe that hiring Bret Hart signaled the end of WCW when it was supposed to signal the end of the WWF? The problem with the company was that no one knew what they were do. Money was being thrown around needlessly… of course, they did pay Bret a shitload of money to do absolutely nothing… then again, the same goes for a whole bunch of guys… not just Bret…
Wild Force meet Time Force Final Part
If you’ve seen it, great. If you’ve missed it, I don’t really blame you. A friend of mine who saw the second part told me it was like last year’s Lightspeed Rescue/Time Force team-up, except two episodes long. Fine, you keep saying that. I thought it was alright. Although I rather would have seen a zord fight (MMPR S3 had American-produced zord fights for the first few episodes – they sucked. However, the PRiS/PRLG team-up also had American-produced zord fights that weren’t bad either), the ending was cheerful – not just Rangers of both teams accompanying each other down a road.
That’s it for this edition. See you next time.
