This week has been an interesting week in wrestling… although I missed the more recent NWA-TNA pay-per-view, I caught enough WW(F)… so this commentary will have only wrestling-related material… with an exception or two…
Eric Bischoff is Back!… So is Stephanie…
If you have been following WWE programming, something amazing has happened… ERIC BISCHOFF, THE FORMER WCW BOSS, IS NOW PART OF WWE!… He took on the role of an on-air General Manager for RAW, although in actuality he has no real power… Unfortunately, the on-air General Manager for Smackdown is… Stephanie McMahon… um, I don’t know how to say this, but you want to attract new viewers with a meaningful product, not a set of boobs and a scream that will scratch and scar your ears for life. Seriously, whenever we (as in a group of friends and myself) see Stephanie on screen, we usually mute through the thing and screw around with a couple of comics until she’s gone. It’s not pretty. We pretty much used to do the same thing every time we heard the starting notes of that damn “Go Go Power Rangers” stupid theme song.
(2013 Update: There have been many discussions since then and in hindsight as to how the introduction and handling of Easy E should have been handled aside from the “Hug that Burned Millions Of Dollars In A Barrel” that we eventually got, but I’m not going to get into that here. And yes, every time I see Stephanie on TV, I still mute my TV. Sorry.)
My Promotion Wars campaign
Just a little over seven months ago, I have come across this pretty ingenious game called Promotion Wars. Maybe you’ve heard of it; it’s that game where you get to manage a wrestling company and try to pull off a better show than Vince McMahon could these days. Since then, I was hooked. Although I have made several attempts at bettering a smaller roster, I eventually decided to go for WWF (back then, it was WWF, not WWE… maybe McMahon is willing to forget what his company was, but I’m not… I haven’t gotten my F out just yet!) and to this day manage to make it into my 3rd year with ratings ranging from 8.66 to 10.2! Numbers Vinnie-Mac will never see in his day.
Oh yeah, my current Undisputed champion is Edge, who beat Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania XX. I’m headed into Summerslam 2004 with aforementioned high ratings, an internal struggle for control between D-Generation nWo (HBK, HHH, X-Pac, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn of DX & Nash, Hall, Hogan, and Big Show of nWo have joined together) and the Corporation (headed by Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff… hey, what a jiff. Somehow, WWE managed to steal MY idea!), a relative newcomer from the Territories (training camp) that hasn’t a lost a match since July 2002, and pushed Goldberg for a couple months… only to get crap matches at best…
(2013 Update: Ah, Promotion Wars. The simple wrestling promotion simulator game for those who found Extreme Warfare Revenge too convoluted for their tastes. Believe it or not, I still have that original game file laying around somewhere like an angry leech. And I still play it every now and then. Sure, EWR is a much superior game, but Promotion Wars often keeps me entertained for brief turns.)
Did you see Confidential?
If you saw Confidential last night (07/20/2002), it featured a piece about Eric Bischoff… Although it wasn’t a thought-provoking work, it was certainly worthwhile… Then again, I’m writing this at 1:15 am and am getting tired.
Next week’s edition is going to feature the “fall of WCW.” It’s amazing that it took the signing of Eric Bischoff to talk about the demise of the old WCW when they could have something like before… oh well…
WWE Vengeance Matches
Tonight is the Vengeance PPV, and if you’ve haven’t the chance to check out the card, here it is, along with my way-off predictions
(2013 Update: Look, I can do a massive updated on this segment. But I did that last year, as evident by this posting here.)
Time Force, meet Wild Force
This coming Saturday will see the team-up between the current Wild Force Power Rangers and last year’s Time Force Rangers… supposedly this is a two-parter, well let’s hope so… especially considering the crap Lightspeed Rescue/Time Force crossover that was underdeveloped and short.
(2013 Update: Reinforcements From The Future was actually a brilliant two-part team-up episode. I was just watching it recently on Netflix and I found myself smiling throughout. Lots of nice original fights with a good amount of stuntwork and wirework. In many ways, I found this team-up episode to be superior to the Forever Red episode that would air a few months later.)
That’s it for today’s edition. Maybe this coming Wednesday I might add another Bite, probably for no particular reason. Until then, watch Vengeance…
