Stone Cold is just the greatest, man. Bald head, black boots, black trunks, no frills, doesn’t take shit from anybody. And you wanna know something? Part of me is sad that he’s going to gone for a good long while. Hope he isn’t gone too long, because that would suck.
In any event, I figured I’d pick my top three Stone Cold moments. I’ve only been watching WWF for a couple years, but I got a couple tapes from the video store and… cool, let’s check that shit out.
Moment #1 – Winning The WWF Title At Wrestlemania 14
The crowning acheivement in Stone Cold’s career was winning that first World title at Wrestlemania 14. It was Austin overcoming eight long years of bullshit and making his way to the top. A great match with Shawn Michaels that turned out to be his last match (for a while, at least) is a worthy kick-off to the Austin era.
Moment #2 – The Bret Hart Feud
This came about before I started watching, but if there was ever one guy who made Stone Cold what he is today besides McMahon, it was Bret Hart. Notable for being the one guy that Stone Cold never beat clean, Bret was the perfect foil for Austin and when the tides were shifting, both guys switched sides. Austin, the once-loathed bad guy, was now the anti-hero loved by many while Bret would become the vilified Canadian hero. A sad moment for Bret, but a defining one for Austin.
Moment #3 – Winning The King Of The Ring in 1996
Austin won the King Of The Ring tournament and cut the promo that gave birth to Austin 3:16 and gave the WWF a bonafide license to print money.
Those are my top 3 stone cold moments.
