AEW Double Or Nothing 2025

Your eyes do not deceive. It’s a PPV Musings on a recent AEW Pay-Per-View event.

In all honesty, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise. While it’s no secret that I haven’t been a fan of the general creative direction that AEW has been going on in recent months, I’d be lying if I said that there were some efforts made in trying to steer the ship right. And also, regardless of my feelings on the current AEW product, watching Double Or Nothing has become something of a tradition going back to the very first event back in 2019. If nothing else, I’d like to keep that tradition going similar to how some friends I know, who largely gave up on wrestling years ago, will still make a point to watch Wrestlemania every year… though some couldn’t keep up with the two-night Buy One Get One free set-up, but that’s okay.

With that having been said, I’d be lying if I said that this year’s Double Or Nothing event felt like a complete afterthought. What was once one of their big tentpole events has basically become the equivalent of a B-level PPV event as we gear up for All In from Texas in July. This year’s Double Or Nothing is a bit of a milestone, as it is the first event since the 2022 edition NOT to emanate from the traditional home of Las Vegas – which just hosted the 5-night Buy One, Get One free extravaganza known as Wrestlemania 41 headlined by Cold Manipulator Punk, but rather from Glensdale, Arizona… who once hosted a hockey team here.

Still, there was some fun stuff to look forward to here and also… well, let’s not jump ahead here and instead dive into this one… off the deep end, Mr. Scott.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2024

For anyone wondering why it’s taken me this long to post musings on this show, it’s because it’s taken me this long to WATCH said show.

Double Or Nothing 2024 is a near-five hour sloth. I’ve heard good things, but the one takeaway was “it’s too damn long.” And when I heard the runtime for this thing, I said, “No thanks. Not for me.” And even when my buddy loaned me his DVD recording of the show to watch some time afterwards, I simply didn’t have the stomach to sit through that entire show. Even on a card built on great wrestling, there comes a point where you can only watch so much before it becomes an afterthought. And that’s probably the big takeaway with this show. See it in one shot and by the end of the show, you’re mostly clockwatching. Watch it in bits and pieces and you can start to appreciate the individual pieces.

That was my approach with this show; watch a match or two a day and get back to the rest another time. That way, I have a greater appreciation for the quality of the matches and such, whereas even splitting it in a couple days worth of viewing, something would’ve been off. So bare in mind when reading this that I’m watching this show in bits and pieces because that’s the only way I could digest this thing. Trying to do this in one shot… eh, I don’t have that in me anymore, regardless of the actual quality.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2023

Posting this on a Tuesday rather than the usual Wednesday just to get it out of the way and since it was done, there’s no real reason to keep it in the backburner when there’s other stuff coming up.

So, for those who didn’t catch the last Dynamite musings, I’ve decided to skip out on this year’s Double Or Nothing. Current TV isn’t doing it for me, the card itself isn’t getting me excited, and the nWo tribute act that the Elite is playing out… it might be working for some people, but it’s not working for me, brother.

So instead of this year’s show, we’re looking at last year’s show, which I only got around to watching recently. And once July hits, there’ll be weekly musings of all the PPVs I missed this past year. After that… who knows? Maybe I’ll do some TNA stuff until Summerslam hits. But that is then… this is now… or rather this is also then… but the other way…

Never mind… let’s just dive in and see if I missed out on anything by skipping this show last year.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022

This past Sunday, WWE held their annual Hell In A Cell PPV event featuring another Cody vs. Seth match… I didn’t watch it, but I did finish watching the AEW PPV, so let’s talk about that, instead.
In all seriousness, folks, I’m sorry that the musings took a week longer than usual, but considering I had other plans during that particular weekend that prevented me from catching the show live – not to mention the ridiculous running time that meant having to break this down to smaller sessions over the course of several nights – it makes sense that I held off posting the musings until I was good and ready to talk about this show.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2021

Yeah, I know… it’s a little late, but other stuff came up, as they usually do on Sundays. Besides, you can afford one less DON musings among many others on Monday, so whatever…

For what it’s worth, I saw the show the night after but avoided spoilers for the most part… but yeah, the first AEW PPV with a full crowd and following a go-home show that is the first of several to be pre-empted to the Friday night death slot for the month of June due to playoffs and all, which is going to suck tremendously… but that’s another story for another time.

Right now, let’s just enjoy this AEW show, which has a bunch of big matches, fun matches, and whatever the hell Cody Rhodes is doing.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

So I didn’t watch the show live… but after hearing how much of a wonderful show this was, I ended up getting the replay about a week or so later and I’m kinda glad I did…? I guess…

So yes, this is AEW’s second Double Or Nothing PPV, originally to eminate from Las Vegas before Corona forced them to move to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville with some of the wrestlers playing the role of fans; pretty much the only place they’ve been doing Dynamite as of late. Highlighting the show are the crowning of a new TNT champion, a hard hitting Wotld title bout straight out of Combat Zone Wrestling (but tamer), and the Stadium Stampede.

I’m excited to revisit this again, so let’s do it.

AEW Double Or Nothing (May 2019 PPV)

So this is it… the inaugural pay-per-view wrestling extravaganza from All Elite Wrestling, Double Or Nothing. I bought the show, but unfortunately, was unable to catch it live due to other commitments. However, I was able to watch it Sunday morning and… well, it was… a thing that happened.

But what kind of thing happened? Let’s get into it.
